[Janus Cosplay] Azur Lane: A Refreshing Splash of Blue at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo

The Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo on July 19th coincided with extremely hot weather—from taking the subway to entering the venue and changing into outfits, moving even a bit induced sweat. However, as a cosplayer balancing both outdoor shoots and convention visits, every time I see these exquisitely recreated sets and lighting, waking up two hours early to finish hair and makeup feels entirely worthwhile. This time I chose Janus from Azur Lane; her overall visual aesthetic is exceptionally refreshing, featuring bright cyan-blue long hair and a fluffy pure white dress design that makes her instantly memorable.

For the wig, I specifically styled it in fine detail—the curvature of long curls and natural bangs thickness required hairspray and clips to fix properly, preventing wind from messing it up en route. The white headband on her head, paired with the huge red bow on the right and a golden crown ornament in the center, formed the highlight details of the look. Regarding wardrobe, Janus's outfit is a white-dominated multi-layered ruffled dress; the deep V-neckline visually elongates neck lines, bestowing an elegant flair. Puffy lantern sleeves made of translucent sheer fabric create a fluttering drape with just a light wave of the arm. The red ribbon at the waist acts as a crucial color-contrast element, giving focus to the delicate pastel palette.

Accessories and props matching this outfit were meticulously crafted as well, such as the golden anchor pendant on the neck and golden pin accents on the chest, accurately restoring small details. For this shoot, I carried a massive golden staff with a complex top structure containing sharp silver-white pieces and radial golden brackets, adorned with a special small blue flower in the center. Though holding this staff for long periods made my arms sore, its synergy with the full outfit was remarkably high, rendering incredible visual tension in snapshots. Besides the big staff, I also brought a round yellow plushie with a chubby face and a tiny white lace hat, looking hilariously cute; I interacted with it in several shots—placing it on my head or beside my hands—adding a cozy and adorable vibe.

I collaborated with photographer NightDiva again for this session. Due to heavy crowds inside the venue, we wandered to a smaller outside area to shoot. Nighttime outdoor lighting was tricky to control, but fortunately, a high-brightness long fill-light panel nearby helped tremendously—the cool violet-white light striking the white dress and blue hair unexpectedly yielded a soft, translucent cold-toned texture, while green trees in the background and the dark night outlined character contours sharply. My skin tone in final photos appeared very even, all thanks to well-coordinated lighting.

The greatest joy of conventions isn't just taking photos, but meeting players and fellow enthusiasts who understand the lore. Exchanging slaps on shoulders and saying \"Your cosplay looks amazing!\" brings a sense of achievement that thoroughly dissolves the day's fatigue. Among the returned Convention photos from that day, there were several I was very satisfied with—especially a candid shot reaching towards the lens, where perspective added playful energy and showcased a lively side of her personality. Though running around in a large skirt and platform shoes at convention halls was exhausting, leaving behind these joyful convention memories made it a deeply happy day.
