This outdoor shoot was set at a sun-drenched open-air pool, with an overall vibe that matched the summer theme impeccably. Looking out, there were blue skies, white clouds, and surrounding palm trees; simply standing by the water lifted the spirits. This glossy Black one-piece swimsuit held a fantastic reflective texture under the sunlight, with ruched chest detailing adding dimensional volume. Paired with a semi-sheer black long-sleeved cover-up, it provided sun protection while adding an airy flow. To complement the styling, I wore black sunglasses pushed up on my head; the golden Twin tails cosplay wig was easily tousled by the wind during the shoot, requiring frequent adjustments.
The temperature was scorching on the day of the shoot, and standing barefoot on the poolside stone steps made the soles of my feet feel quite hot. Just as mentioned in the post caption, as a Commander, I must remind everyone that the tiles around the pool get extremely slippery once wet, so one must tread with extreme caution when moving in swimwear—especially when standing barefoot on stone steps, where the toes need to grip firmly to maintain balance. The first set of poses was standing by the pool, resting one hand on a clear inflatable ring while adjusting the sunglasses with the other, leaning my center of gravity slightly back to elongate leg lines and project a relaxed posture. With direct sunlight beating down, keeping my eyes open was a challenge, but the resulting light and shadow were crystal clear.
Afterward, I shifted to a seated pose, perching on the stone edge of the pool with hands clasped behind my head and legs extended forward. This posture required keeping the back straight, using core strength to maintain stability. The afternoon water surface shimmered with ripples, its specular reflections adding rich tonal layers to the dark swimsuit. To capture the water's gleam, the photographer explored multiple angles, utilizing the pool surface as a natural reflector. Under the blazing sun, the wig tended to get dry and stiff, so every now and then I sprayed detangling mist, while regularly blotting my face with oil-absorbing sheets to avoid an oily sheen under harsh light.
The biggest challenge of a poolside photoshoot is actually harsh lighting, which is why we chose to shoot after 3:00 PM, utilizing soft rim and side backlighting to carve out silhouette contours. The reflector effect off the water tested the camera's exposure settings, requiring considerable calibration from the photographer. This Black one-piece swimsuit was crafted from high-elasticity fabric that hugged body curves snugly without feeling excessively heavy once wet. The sleeves of the sheer cover-up were very billowing, allowing dynamic motion by sweeping the sleeves mid-air.
From standing to sitting and readjusting poses, the entire process demanded steady bodily composure. Because of shooting barefoot, the sensory difference between rough stone and wet tile was stark, requiring extra safety precautions when transitioning between poses. The sun, water splashes, and black attire created a bold chromatic contrast, lending every raw frame a distinctive visual impact.
It wasn't until dusk when the sun set and the water shifted from azure to warm gold that we finally wrapped the shoot. Packing up the gear, my deepest takeaway was that outdoor pool shoots require not only overcoming heat and slipping hazards, but learning to master harsh, glaring light.
