This blue-and-white cat girl outfit was my main cosplay focus for the CPG08 convention. The costume features intricate layers, with an off-the-shoulder design paired with sheer puff sleeves that caught the convention lighting beautifully. The skirt has a double-layered lace trim accented with 3D white roses and pearl chains, which required extra care while walking to avoid snagging on surrounding objects. The black corset belt around the waist, studded with silver rivets, added structured lines to the otherwise sweet, cute girl aesthetic.
Before shooting, I carefully styled my long black hair and cat ear headpiece. To complement the overall blue-and-white palette, I wore bright blue contact lenses. On my legs were white stockings paired with platform white Mary Jane shoes. While these shoes offered good stability for walking around the convention, my feet were aching by the end of the day. Fortunately, the skirt's volume and strategic posing helped mask any exhaustion.
The standout prop was the enormous white plush cat, whose blue limbs and collar matched my dress perfectly. Leaning against it allowed for shots that obscured part of my body to focus directly on facial expressions and eye makeup. Poses with one leg raised best accentuated the white stockings and leg silhouette; I had the photographer crouch slightly and pull the focal length forward, which lengthened the legs while keeping the overall frame balanced. Using my hands for small interactions—like holding a flyer or making casual gestures—added lively engagement and prevented poses from feeling stiff.
Despite the chaotic lighting typical of comic conventions, these convention photos turned out well balanced without awkward shadows. The lighting around the photo area and booth spaces accurately rendered the blues and whites. Even with heavy foot traffic, the photographer found great angles that filtered out the visual clutter in the background, leaving the booth signage sharp yet non-distracting.
For makeup, the focus was on the eyes, paired with heavy pink blush that contrasted nicely with the blue contacts to give a vibrant, expressive look. Carrying such a massive plush toy drew plenty of attention, and many passersby stopped to take photos, creating an enjoyable atmosphere. The rustling fabric of the outfit and the jingling pearl chains made the entire shooting experience feel delightfully tangible.
Handling the oversized plush required constant awareness of nearby crowds and tables. Tightly hugging the plush with my arms not only produced more natural pictures but also provided leverage to maintain balance. The shoot was divided into distinct phases: first, half-body close-ups focused on eye direction and subtle hand gestures like resting my chin on my palm; second, full-body shots ensuring the skirt draped naturally without hiding the legs; third, holding the plush, which required smoothing out its fur while keeping the spotlight on myself. Technically speaking, side lighting proved much more effective than direct frontal light for showcasing the texture and layers of the outfit.
The massive booth backdrop and bustling scene amplified the vibrant ACG vibe. Doing this kind of cosplay is physically taxing—especially when balancing heavy hair, voluminous skirts, and smiling continuously throughout the day. Although exhausting, seeing the final images made the entire effort feel worthwhile. The makeup stayed fresh on camera, and the white stockings and leg contours came out clearly.
