This was an Outdoor photography shoot of Wishadel cosplay from Arknights completed during the Firefly ACG Expo. To match the character's commanding presence, we deliberately chose city streets as our backdrop, utilizing distant glass curtain walls and metallic architectural structures to amplify the frame's imposing tension. The weather that afternoon was sunny but quite cold, and because the outfit is a red-and-black tactical crop top with an exposed midriff, posing in the chilly wind was truly quite a challenge. The biggest hurdle was actually the props: the custom-made giant gun and the heavy greatsword strapped behind me were remarkably heavy, taking substantial time just to transport and adjust.
To showcase the character's sheer sense of power, the shoot utilized low-angle wide-angle perspective. The photographer lay nearly flat against the ground, while I had to balance my body and strike an aggressive combat stance—such as propping the tip of the greatsword against the pavement for leverage and pushing upward with my core. This not only created a poised, upright silhouette, but also fully highlighted the waist straps and metallic ring details along the legs. For makeup, we deepened the cold fierceness of the gaze to match the silver-white wig and red mechanical horns, striving to recreate that intimidating aura. The wind was fierce, constantly blowing the wig and jacket hem around, yet it serendipitously created an authentic dynamic feel of being mid-battle.
There were many passersby during the shoot; some stopped to watch, while fellow fans recognized the character and whispered among themselves, which felt quite wonderful. For the red-and-black jacket fabric, the outer layer has a subtle sheen that catches beautiful rim lighting in backlit conditions. To wear the outfit properly, the drawstrings around the waist and legs were tightened repeatedly; though snug and somewhat uncomfortable, they sculpted crisp body lines and greatly enhanced visual expression. From glancing close-ups to wide shots wielding weapons, every motion was tested multiple times—especially the backward glance, where holding the gaze angle for the lens left my neck aching.
Looking at the finished Convention photos, the authentic natural light outdoors gave the character a vivid realism unobtainable in studio shoots. Although this shoot was physically grueling, seeing this red-and-black gear blend seamlessly into the modern urban backdrop brought immense satisfaction, truly living up to the description of 'the most intense chapter.'
