For this Amusement park location shoot, choosing an amusement park as our backdrop yielded results that fit the casual, slice-of-life charm of Genshin Impact's Nilou cosplay sailor suit concept even better than anticipated. To complement the visual impact of her vibrant crimson hair and horned headdress, extensive care went into styling the wig beforehand. The stock wig easily looks bulky, so I styled gentle inward curls using a flat iron, allowing the side locks to frame the face naturally, while reinforcing the ponytail anchoring points to ensure it wouldn't easily fray or come undone while walking and posing outdoors. Although the horned headdress appeared quite substantial, adding soft padding and adjusting the strapping significantly alleviated pressure on the scalp.
Regarding the outfit, I opted for a light-blue sailor-collared short-sleeved blouse paired with a deep-blue pleated miniskirt. To enhance visual depth, a pale mint-green ribbon bow was tied at the collar, while the skirt's flanks were adorned with golden rings and feather tassels—delicate touches that pop gorgeously on camera. The White stockings were a central highlight of this styling: to achieve a natural sheer, skin-translucent look, I selected a light-compression pair that flatters leg lines without glare under camera lights. The complete ensemble struck an ideal balance between ACG anime flair and everyday casual wear (cosplay).
The weather on shoot day was wonderfully cooperative, with the twilight sky washing into soft gradients of pale blue and blush purple, offering gentle, non-harsh ambient light. The ferris wheel and colorful architecture within the amusement park infused the frames with a vibrant, playful atmosphere. Seated on the stone steps, I explored several distinct pose sequences. The first set involved folding both hands in front of my torso with fingers delicately curled, mimicking the character's signature hand gestures; the second had one hand gently brushing the horned headdress while bracing behind with the other, legs crossed. While these poses look effortless, holding them actually demanded core stability to keep balance, especially sitting along the stone edge where maintaining my center of gravity was crucial to avoid slipping.
In terms of expression management, Nilou inherently radiates an aura of ethereal agility and gentle tenderness. I strove to keep my gaze relaxed and natural, complemented by red contact lenses and a soft pinkish makeup palette, bringing a vivid, three-dimensional character to life before the lens. When capturing candid moments, the photographer leveraged the geometric structure of the ferris wheel and subtle backlighting, imbuing the compositions with rich dimensional layering while preserving crisp textural detail.
Between takes, I actively exchanged ideas with the photographer regarding composition and lighting—such as utilizing the vibrant hues of mosaic-tiled walls for visual contrast with the costume, or posing before the park's pastel pink attractions to sweeten the mood. The entire shoot went smoothly, giving me fresh confidence in pulling off sailor suit aesthetics. Every outdoor shoot is a brand new adventure; from pre-production to the final wrap, every phase calls for patience and meticulous craftsmanship.
Bringing this outdoor shoot to life successfully wouldn't have been possible without thorough prep work and flexible real-time adjustments on set. From ironing the garments and checking props to developing seamless synergy with the photographer, every single detail determined the final image quality.
