"Past shores parted by the sea, the former self gone"—this Fugue Cosplay is filled with a serene yet lavish narrative presence.

Bringing this character from miHoYo's Honkai: Star Rail to life was actually quite demanding, primarily because the garment's complexity went beyond my expectations. The costume is a Japanese-style ensemble in a red, black, and gold color scheme; the fabric is thick and textured, with flowing wide sleeves printed with red-and-white floral motifs that generate striking visual tension in motion. The golden metallic ornaments at the bust and waist are substantial in weight—especially the large floral clasp with golden tassels, which swayed continuously while walking and required deliberate effort to balance.

Pulling off this look demanded close attention to body posture. The off-the-shoulder cut sets high requirements for the shoulders and collarbones, requiring an upright posture to avoid slouching. I tuned my stance in advance to let the orange vine tattoo on the neck draw the eye naturally to the collarbones. To balance overall proportions, I paired nude Stockings with black patent high heels. The heel height was carefully chosen to elongate the leg lines, introducing a distinct allure mixed into the traditional aesthetic.

Securing the beast ears on the head and the large white tail behind was quite tricky. The tail had to be anchored securely at the tailbone to maintain a graceful curve whether crouching or turning, without weighing down the garment.

For props, I particularly loved the red-and-black folding fan adorned with flame motifs and floral patterns; holding its solid weight and fluttering it gently while casting a hazy glance at the camera captured the character's essence nicely.

On the day of the shoot, the photographer set up wooden flooring scattered with cherry blossom petals and sheer pink drapery. Backlighting placed behind created a soft rim light that looked stunning. The first seated pose on an antique wooden chair was a workout for leg placement and pointing the instep—keeping it slender yet natural while balancing steadily on the wooden ledge. Another shot featured lying directly on the wooden floor over a soft white blanket, face tilted with fallen petals resting on it, which required fully relaxed facial muscles to evoke a cool, hollow quietude.

There was also a close-up with the pipe prop; given the fantasy-historical premise, getting the exact curvature of movement and fingertip synergy took numerous attempts to nail down the right aura.

The hair and makeup also took hours, especially styling the wig strand by strand to lock in the hairline and curls. Accented with golden floral ornaments, the red locks near the neck were truly eye-catching, translating gorgeously on camera.

Though the shoot lasted several hours, leaving my legs and feet sore from high heels, seeing the final images made it completely worth it. The character design of Fugue carries a spirit of carefree ease and rebirth, demanding a delicate balance on camera—simultaneously enchanting yet filled with poignant release. This shoot deepened my appreciation for portraying such multifaceted characters, letting this Cute girl shine with authentic charm.

Prior to shooting, I reviewed the character's pose references repeatedly to embody that languid yet dangerous temperament: a vacant yet focused gaze on the lens, a grip on the fan neither too tight nor too loose, and locks of hair draping gracefully across the shoulders, always keeping facial contours refined during turns and downward glances.
