When Genshin Impact first launched its open beta back in 2020, I registered my account, playing intermittently over the years until Version 4.0 when Furina arrived and I truly committed to the journey. In the blink of an eye, six years have passed. Keqing, Mona, and Qiqi—who originally showed up as 50/50 losses on the standard banner—have now grown into cherished cornerstones of my gaming youth. Teaming up with Daisy, we decided to immortalize the shared bond of this standard banner trio through cosplay.
The pre-production cycle for this photoshoot ran considerably longer than expected. Bringing three characters to life simultaneously demanded extensive communication regarding costume allocation and character alignment. I cosplayed Qiqi, Daisy portrayed Mona, and a close friend stepped into Keqing's shoes. Genshin Impact designs are renowned for their intricate details, so we invested immense labor into wig styling and prop fabrication: Qiqi's silver-violet twin tails and talisman talismanic headwear, Mona's twin-tail ribbons along with her iconic form-fitting leotard bodysuit, and Keqing's regal purple garments—from textile sourcing to gilded filigree accents, every element strove to honor the source material.
The shoot spanned three distinct settings. For the stage theater set featuring red velvet curtains and a black-and-white checkerboard floor, we composed standing and seated arrangements to emphasize individual personalities. Mona's bodysuit paired with black Stockings adorned with golden celestial star patterns delivered an extraordinary texture before the lens, while high-shine gloves caught the studio lighting with photogenic sheen. In the traditional Japanese-style scene, framed by wisteria blossoms, shoji sliding screens, a walking cane, and an oiled paper umbrella, we explored fluid, dynamic interactions. The final library set utilized warm desk lamps and towering bookshelves to cultivate a tranquil ambiance, where the 'shh' finger-to-lips gesture was an organic, unscripted moment of improvisation.
Throughout the entire session, what resonated most deeply as a cosplayer was the physical weight and intricate complexity of the attire. Form-fitting bodysuits and opera gloves in particular demanded cautious movements to prevent awkward creasing or wardrobe slips. Yet reviewing the finished frames in the camera monitor instantly rendered all the exhaustion worthwhile. This was more than just a cosplay shoot; it was a heartfelt homage to six years spent wandering Teyvat. Those familiar faces from the standard banner accompanied us across countless version updates, and bringing them to life in our own creative vision has been an immensely meaningful milestone.
