[Taihou cosplay] Azur Lane anime convention photos, gorgeous visual of red-gold Japanese style paired with black stockings

The convention photos of Taihou from this Firefly ACG Expo have finally been sorted out. For this red-and-gold Japanese-style stage outfit, I started adjusting the curvature of the wig and bangs more than half a month in advance, and the golden hair accessory on top of the head was reinforced repeatedly for fear of it falling off while walking around the venue. Taihou's outfit has numerous layers; the off-the-shoulder design needs to ensure that the inner wear and gold trim fit the collarbone, while the way the waist cincher is tied and the position of the gold knot directly affect the overall body proportion, so my partner and I spent some time helping each other adjust it during wearing. The orange feathered tassels on the sleeves are very eye-catching, but they also tangle easily during big movements. To capture an ethereal, flowing feel, we tested the amplitude of arm swinging several times at the venue's corridor entrance. The Mount Fuji and floral prints on the outer sleeves have a strong traditional Japanese flavor, and combined with the black main waist belt, the overall visual center of gravity falls on the upper body, so the lower body was paired with black stockings with grey spliced edges and platform shoes, which can both tone down the vibrant red and visually elongate the leg lines.

The lighting at the convention site is actually quite complex, with relatively harsh overhead lighting, so most of the convention photos utilized the natural diffuse light at the edges of the venue, or found corridors with light-and-dark contrast to highlight the character's silhouette. The first group of photos tried a standing pose with arms spread wide, which makes the overall composition more dynamic and fully showcases the tailoring of the clothing. Later, I found that candid shots of walking while pushing a suitcase or sitting on a suitcase looked more natural; this black rolling suitcase unexpectedly became a great shooting prop, serving both as a chair and visually balancing the expansion effect brought by the bright red color. During the shoot, to make the facial expression fit the character's temperament, the gaze needed to purposely maintain a bit of coolness and a slightly intoxicating state, which, combined with the red-brown contact lenses and eye makeup, can reinforce that dangerous yet charming contrast in front of the lens.

The material of this outfit is mostly quite crisp and can support the silhouette under natural light, but once encountering large areas of hard light, the gold metallic texture reflections on the clothing easily overexpose. Therefore, during post-processing photo selection, highlight details were retained as much as possible, the brightness of the red was lowered, and the skin texture was made to look softer and more natural. When squatting or sitting sideways, the viewing angle and the blocking relationship of the skirt hem required precise control—ensuring both the integrity of the costume and avoiding wardrobe malfunctions—so every action's camera angle was communicated with the photographer first before locking in the pose.

I met many fellow fans holding cameras at the site; everyone helped each other look after bags and touch up makeup, and the whole shooting process was tight and smooth. From preparing the costume to moving around the site, every set of convention photos is a concrete manifestation of the understanding of the character. While organizing the photos, I deliberately selected a few different postures, hoping to convey that gorgeous yet somewhat sharp feeling through flat photos.
