Walking into the bamboo forest with this polearm and fox-eared wig, the sunlight filtering through the bamboo leaves onto the armor instantly gave me a deep sense of immersion as General Feixiao. The original intention of shooting this set of photos for this Feixiao cosplay was to recreate the spiritual core of this 'Three-No' Great General: 'No worries, no regrets, invincible.' To closely match the character, the costume features a bright blue and white color block design paired with black and gold accessories, maxing out the texture. The light and shadow on set were absolutely magnificent, especially the Tyndall effect beams breaking through the gaps in the bamboo forest to form a natural rim light, making the overall frame look less dull and adding a sense of chilling yet free-spirited atmosphere. The photographer chose the Sony A7R V paired with an 85mm F1.4 lens; this wide aperture handles portrait close-ups and distant views with ease, beautifully emphasizing the main subject.
To capture the most natural expressions on set, we truly did a lot of 'rolling around' on the hillside covered with fallen leaves; even the fluffy animal ears fell off several times because the rotation amplitude was too wide. The giant axe prop was much heavier than imagined. Having to swing it with one hand while striking poses was a significant test for my arm strength. But seeing the tension of the weapon combining with the figure in the final photos made every bit of effort feel completely worth it. The style of this entire set breaks away from the conventional vertical-screen stereotypes. Especially after experimenting with some horizontal compositions, I found that the depth of the bamboo forest under a grand scene aligns much more harmoniously with the character's dynamic movements. The bamboo sea, streams, and autumn leaves—these natural elements are inherently in tune with the character's carefree and easygoing temperament. I hope to fully showcase Feixiao's free-spirited nature of living in the moment through this approach.
Doing a shoot deep in the bamboo forest, the most important thing is to resonate with nature; the sound of the wind blowing through the bamboo leaves matches her image perfectly. The tailoring of the clothes is very form-fitting, though the skirt hem easily got caught on thorns while walking on mountain paths—thankfully the boots were sturdy enough. Whether standing or sitting, I worked hard to align with that lazy yet majestic feeling. Although the expression looks a bit detached, the inner monologue is actually incredibly rich. Seeing the final light, shadow, and colors presented in the photos, one can truly appreciate the quality boost brought by professional equipment and full immersion for this piece of Anime cosplay and Cosplay photography.
