[Sunna cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero SAC anime convention Outdoor Photoshoot Diary

Today, I found a quiet street with little traffic outside the SAC anime convention to shoot an official cosplay photoshoot of Sunna from Zenless Zone Zero. This outfit features plenty of layers: a white shirt paired with a multi-tiered black ruffled skirt, plus the blue-and-yellow plush charm dangling from the waist, making the overall color contrast quite vivid. To faithfully recreate the character's look, I chose a light mint-green twin-tail wig, complete with black cat-ear hair clips and cyan ribbons, taking care of virtually all the details on the head. The wig has quite a lot of hair volume, so before shooting, I took time to straighten the ends slightly with a flat iron to keep the twin-tails looking natural without excessive frizz.

The sunlight was very strong during the shoot, which made for ideal backlighting conditions, casting a lovely halo along the edges of the hair strands. The pink-and-white striped arm warmers on my arms and the matching slouch socks on my feet were real highlights of the ensemble; paired with the black leather harness straps, they added great depth to the overall layering. Because the skirt has a generous puff, striking slightly broader poses during movements helped showcase the dynamic motion of the clothes. The charm dangling on the left side of the waist swayed with every turn, adding an authentic little touch. The leg straps tended to slide down while walking, so I readjusted their tightness when fastening them to make sure they wouldn't shift during posing.

For the facial makeup, the focus was primarily on accentuating the eyes, wearing golden contact lenses paired with orange-toned blush, which harmonized beautifully with the bright sunny environment. In terms of accessories, the black choker around the neck paired with the red star necktie looked cohesive without feeling cluttered. While walking along the road, I bumped into a few fellow fans and chatted briefly. Shooting this cosplay outdoors lent it a greater sense of realism compared to studio shoots, and the fabric textures were much clearer under natural light. The creases in the white shirt and the gauzy texture of the black skirt looked richly tactile in the rim lighting, presenting a far more vivid presence than shooting under studio strobes.

For this set of photos, I stood under the sun for over half an hour, continuously adjusting poses to ensure the folds of the skirt and the leg accessories were properly framed. Wearing the pink backpack along with the white wing decorations on the back made the overall center of gravity tricky to balance, requiring constant posture adjustments. Fortunately, the lighting conditions that day were fantastic, and the raw shots already had rich color saturation, needing only minor adjustments in contrast and tone during post-processing. While the color palette of this outfit is relatively complex, the play of light and dark created an unexpectedly striking effect. I also attempted several wide jumping poses; although the throwaway rate for action captures was high, the selected freeze frames felt full of energy and better showcased the airy flow of the skirt.

After finishing the shoot and packing up the props and costume, I went into the hall for a stroll and bought some small merch. The convention was packed, but the street chosen for the outdoor shoot was relatively peaceful, perfectly meeting our needs. Wearing this outfit out on a regular day is certainly not practical, but it was completely worth it for the photos. If I find another suitable location in the future, I'd love to try a night shoot with this costume using auxiliary lighting, which should deliver an entirely different vibe.
