Today I finally shot this swimsuit set of Vivian from Zenless Zone Zero! To fit the ambiance of the Iris Poolside, we specially chose an outdoor open-air pool for the shoot. This blue-and-white color-blocked outfit actually has an abundance of details, featuring various straps and metal buckles; it took quite a bit of time to adjust while dressing, especially the emerald gemstone decoration at the neckline, which was secured with pins in several places to ensure a snug fit and great display effect.
The wig styling features light purple long straight hair paired with braided styling. To recreate the elf setting, I wore lightweight resin ear tips, which, once made up and paired with circle lenses, immediately brought out that otherworldly 2D anime feel. In terms of makeup, heavy emphasis was placed on lowering the eyelids and pink-toned eyeshadow, which looks quite vibrant under the sunlight.
The most eye-catching prop during the shoot was definitely that huge transparent inflatable swim ring; pumping it up took a lot of effort, but its reflection effect in the water was exceptional. The black-and-purple long-handled umbrella held in hand formed a wonderful contrast with the pool's blue color. Wearing this outfit definitely requires pairing it with these towering heels; although they are blue patent leather platform high heels, walking around the poolside actually tests your balance quite a bit, especially standing on wet tiles where I almost slipped a few times, so everyone must pay attention to safety if shooting in similar environments.
To present the best state before the lens, one must not only find the right lighting but also balance the water surface reflection. When sitting inside the swim ring, you have to constantly adjust your waist strength to keep the leg lines relaxed and stretched while managing your facial expressions so you don't look exhausted from the shoes being too high and tiring. The photographer's snapshot angles were fantastic, perfectly showcasing the blue-and-white refreshing feel and the overall summer atmosphere.
Summer sunlight is truly blinding, and the light reflected off the water surface hitting your face makes it very easy to frown or squint. To make the gaze look clearer, we tried many different angles to borrow light. Sometimes, to capture that shimmering water-surface texture, we had to deliberately shoot against the light or facing the sun, leaving my eyes watering profusely from the glare, but I gritted my teeth and persevered for the sake of the final photo effect. The patent leather high heels on my feet were actually a bit stuffy in the high temperature, but the glossiness presented before the lens was phenomenal, and they elongated my overall body proportions, giving the frame much more tension. Back then, to nail the posture of sitting on the transparent swim ring, my legs had to maintain a constant state of exertion; because the plastic material is relatively slippery, core strength had to be used to steady the center of gravity, and my abs felt sore after the shoot. The nearby long-handled umbrella was also a minor challenge—not only did it need to be held gracefully, but I also had to make sure the pattern on the umbrella didn't break character immersion. Overall, successfully recreating this styling by the pool this time means every single photo embodies everyone's sweat and hard work.
Even though the weather is still somewhat hot right now, shooting by the water can genuinely help quiet your mind. The fabric of this costume has a slight translucency under the sunlight, and sitting down allows it to showcase the leg lines and the swimsuit's design aesthetic wonderfully. Although the process was relatively tiring and involved plenty of props, seeing the final photo results truly makes everything feel completely worth it. The character design of Zenless Zone Zero is right up my alley, and getting the chance to present this style is an amazing experience.
