For this shoot, the three of us specifically chose a pure pink backdrop, aiming to create a dreamy visual impact that highlights the rich textures of anime-style idol stage outfits. To harmonize with this background, we coordinated our overall color scheme in advance, focusing on white, black, pink, and baby blue to keep the composition cohesive without looking cluttered.
First, about my experience cosplaying Sunna: this outfit features incredible layering. The outer white vest has very structured, clean tailoring, while the pink-and-white striped arm warmers underneath add rich visual detail to the arms and amplify the character's energetic vibe. The black tiered tutu skirt is made of a relatively stiff fabric to maintain its structured volume on camera; paired with the large blue-and-black polka-dot bow and adorable animal charms at the waist, it instantly radiates playfulness. The pink straps and leg rings on the thighs are packed with detail—we spent a long time adjusting and securing them before shooting to ensure a flawless look, which, together with the White stockings, makes the leg lines flow smoothly and elegantly.
For hair and makeup, my silvery-white short wig required meticulous styling, particularly the bangs, which needed to look light and airy. The hairpins were also positioned through multiple comparisons. To capture the characters' signature traits, all three of us wore striking, vibrant contact lenses; my blue eyes popped with remarkable brightness against the pink backdrop. The eye makeup utilized a pronounced lower eyelid-down contour to enhance an innocent gaze, paired with touches of blush on the tip of the nose and cheeks to create an approachable, charming presence on camera.
I also have to highlight my partners' looks! On the left, Nangong features pink twintails with gradient ends accented by black bows, and the massive teal star prop in her hand carried substantial weight, its glossy lacquered finish reflecting beautifully under the studio's flat lighting. On the right, Aria sports long straight black hair with pink-dipped tips, adorned with charming pink and blue bows; cradling a black plush item with a slight forward lean, she radiated effortless confidence.
During shooting, we experimented with a variety of interactions. Flat lighting can be tricky since it easily flattens facial depth, so we varied our poses—resting chins on hands, forming heart signs, or folding hands over our chests—to carve out dimension for our faces and arms. The three of us positioned ourselves in a stable triangular composition, giving each character space to shine while keeping the overall frame tight and harmonious.
With so many fine details across the costumes and props, organizing everything took considerable time, but seeing everyone in top form in the final shots made every bit of effort worth it.
