Shooting this concept for Yixuan was thoroughly fascinating. The entire set was arranged within an abandoned factory or garage-like setting, featuring mottled corrugated metal walls, a vintage motorcycle, a distressed sofa, and blue oil barrels, accented by red prohibition signs and graffiti to construct a rugged industrial wasteland aesthetic. The setting was filled with complex details, demanding constant care while walking to avoid tripping.
The character's outfit is a black patent leather jacket—a material with demanding lighting requirements, where controlling hotspots and reflections directly dictates texture. The jacket's tailored cut, paired with a white collar, blue rose, and silver-white hair, creates high visual contrast. During the shoot, wearing hosiery with high heels accentuated the lines of the ankles and calves. The sheen of the stockings under the lights was subtle, requiring deliberate adjustments in stance alongside the heels to present taut leg proportions on camera. To prevent snags, we thoroughly cleared the floor and props, keeping a spare pair of stockings on hand just in case.
Wig styling also took considerable time; long white hair easily looks untidy, so it had to be misted with setting spray along its natural grain to preserve clean drape. Small props like the bird and cards required coordination with varied shooting angles, keeping hand gestures relaxed yet deliberate. The makeup emphasized reddish-pink eye shadow and contact lens effects; against such a stark scene and black patent leather, eye intensity was vital. To maintain the jacket's smooth sheen without creasing from prolonged bending, I opted for dynamic postures—sitting sideways, straddling, or propping a foot onto props, such as leaning against the motorcycle's wheel or crossing legs on the edge of the sofa. The slender stiletto heels on barrels or sofa edges demanded core and thigh stability, which not only highlighted the garment's texture but also leveraged diverse perspectives to elongate proportions.
The photographer employed alternating cool and warm lighting: red ambient fill washed over background mesh and walls, while warm key lights illuminated the subject, bringing out saturation and dimensional depth in the leather and hosiery. Any slight shift in reflector position could scatter unwanted hotspots across the jacket, necessitating continuous camera realignment and weight shifting. Shooting all day was exhausting, but the resulting crisp, cool Industrial style photography and sharp Anime cosplay finish made it all worthwhile.
