[Nanakusa Nazuna cosplay] Urban Night in Call of the Night, Frozen on Meizhou Streets

Staying up late to complete this shoot on the streets and stairwells of Meizhou, I truly want to deeply thank instructor nagi for the conceptualization and for personally holding the camera, helping me fulfill this project of capturing a unique sense of atmosphere at night.

When I initially received this costume, what required the most repeated adjustments was actually the texture of the black patent leather top and shorts. Patent leather material has a very high reflectivity. Under the illumination of various neon signs and billboards at night, if the camera position or lighting angle is incorrect, it easily overexposes the clothes into a dead white or creates excessive glare. The matching loose black-and-grey color-blocked coat happened to play a neutralizing role, subduing the large area of glossy black, which, paired with over-the-knee black stockings and a halter choker, formed a beautifully staggered sense of layering in the overall outfit.

Regarding the styling, the light pink braided wig has a very thick volume. When tying the double braided pigtails, the curve of the bangs on both sides needed to be piecey and fragmented to bring out that slightly casual yet energetic look. The makeup this time did not pursue an overly exaggerated stage feel, but rather enhanced the elongation of the eyeshadow and the embellishment of red lips, trying to keep a sliver of vivid vitality for the character within the cool blue-green ambient light.

It's fair to say that the difficulty of shooting this set of photos was quite high. Because the time was selected late at night, most areas of the shopping malls and commercial streets were already closed, and we could only utilize public steps, glass railings, and neon billboards for scenery. Many pictures applied large-angle tilted compositions to expand the depth of the frame with the help of the building lines' extension. For instance, the low-angle shot peering up at the raised soda can, or the frame leaning sideways against the railing, all required the photographer to constantly shift between high and low camera positions, even half-squatting at the edge of the stairs to search for perspective. In terms of action design, I also cooperated with many open gestures, such as holding a can featuring lemon element patterns, or propping my chin with one hand, wishing to endow the frame with more storytelling.

What impressed me the most during the shoot was actually the curious gazes of passersby; someone wearing patent leather shorts and over-the-knee socks running between different floors in the middle of the night was indeed quite eye-catching. But the charm of an urban nightscape lies exactly in this balance between abruptness and immersion—the cool corridor lights and the warm-toned outdoor signs in the distance reflected off each other, truly bringing out a sense of freedom wandering through the city all through the night. Instructor nagi also grasped the snapshot rhythm beautifully; many over-the-shoulder and snapshot movements were actually captured during intervals of natural walking, devoid of any forced posing feel.

Throughout the entire shoot, the ultimate test was actually the utilization of that soda can prop in hand. Because it had to coordinate with compositions from different angles while avoiding blocking my face or crucial body lines, combined with the fact that the metallic can's reflections at night created tiny highlight spots, I had to readjust the direction and height of holding the can every time we changed scenes. Another aspect was that the sleeves of the coat were exceptionally long, making it easy to hinder arm movements when taking close-ups or half-body portraits; I needed to constantly bunch up the garment to reveal the undergarment and hand lines. Although these details were tedious, the effect of the final photos was absolutely worth it. This techwear and street style paired with a Cyberpunk neon night view perfectly matched the feeling I initially wanted to express. The photographic coordination coupled with the character's own temperament made the style of the final photos exceptionally prominent in our Casual anime cosplay routine.
