[Zhen Hai cosplay] Azur Lane Zhen Hai: Yujie style aura in black-and-gold cheongsam and Black tights outfit - Image 1

As promised, here is the cosplay photoshoot of Zhen Hai from Azur Lane. To faithfully bring this character to life, considerable preparation went into the wardrobe, hair, and makeup during pre-production.

The outfit centers around a black-and-gold color palette. The halter-neck black dress features cutout tailoring along the sides of the bust and waist, trimmed with intricate golden openwork metal accents that visually flatter bodily curves. The neckline is adorned with golden chains and white tassels, paired with a black-and-gold shawl wrap to create rich visual layering. For the arms, sheer black opera gloves were chosen, while the lower half pairs an ultra-short black skirt with sheer black stockings—this textile beautifully accentuates the leg lines under studio lighting while preserving an air of enigmatic allure. To assemble all these accessories, I carefully compared multiple shops to ensure the metallic luster looked refined and expensive on camera.

The wig is a classic long, straight black style with blunt bangs framing the face, accented on the left with a headpiece of black roses and white floral lace. For makeup, I wore red colored contacts and swept a broad wash of soft pink blending around the eyes, paired with a fair porcelain base to match the character's signature facial aesthetics. Pink blush was dusted across the cheeks to bring anime-inspired makeup closer to life. To keep the eye makeup pristine, the diffusion radius of the eyeshadow had to be precisely controlled to avoid looking messy or tear-stained.

The shoot was staged before a seamless pure white backdrop with a plush white rug laid across the floor, utilizing the stark contrast between black and white to make the subject pop. Because the costume is black, preventing the fabric from crushing into flat shadows was vital; side-backlighting with softboxes contoured the silhouette edges, while a front reflector gently filled the face to brighten catchlights in the eyes. Since black fabric and gold hardware reflect light differently, lighting demands were high, requiring constant communication with the photographer to find the ideal lighting angles.

For posing, I maintained a seated three-quarter profile, resting one hand gently across my chest while letting the other drape naturally over my leg, looking slightly downward toward the lens. To channel that commanding Yujie style elegance, keeping the shoulders open and the back straight was essential, engaging core strength to sustain upright poise and project the character's imposing aura. Maintaining this stance for extended periods was a true core workout, particularly ensuring the cutout waist panels did not wrinkle or distort with movement.

The metallic hardware at the waist pressed firmly during long seated stretches, and because the sheer black tights and gloves fit so snugly, dressing required patient smoothing. However, seeing the final images made it all worthwhile—the black-and-gold palette delivers striking tactile depth against the pure white setting, and the pairing of cutout details with the Black tights outfit fully achieved our intended visual goals. The overall aesthetic leans cool and alluring, and through ongoing recalibration of studio lights and poses, we ultimately produced a set of photos I am genuinely proud of.
