During this photoshoot session for Ellen Joe with my photographer, what stood out most during prep was the costume styling and on-set lighting. The primary black palette with white ruffles is packed with intricate details—especially the large black tail bearing the star mark and the distinct serrated headpiece. A gradient pink streak was added to the wig, injecting a lively splash of color into the otherwise stark black-and-white hair.

Regarding the black tights that everyone often pays attention to, this serves as a core visual element in Ellen Joe's styling. To align with the dark, slightly gothic maid aesthetic, I selected a pair of black tights with moderate opacity. Its primary purpose isn't just character accuracy, but also flattering the leg contours under directional lighting in this Black tights outfit. The photographer placed great emphasis on highlighting this feature; in the first composition, for instance, the layered contrast between the black tights and white ruffles is beautifully defined, while the wine glass prop adds a relaxed, casual touch to the character.

As for the setting, the red brick walls paired with hanging vintage film canisters and a retro red telephone created a distinctive modern-retro ambiance. Moving in front of the bookshelf for the second shot, the warm red ambient light falling on the black uniform evoked a serene, mysterious mood. In the third close-up, I engaged in subtle bodily control—lightly touching my lips with a finger—which, paired with red colored contacts, aimed to capture Ellen Joe's distinct, rebellious, yet captivating charm.

There were a few minor adventures during the shoot. Because the props and wig were quite bulky, turning around in the tight studio space required extra care, but that's all part of the fun in a cosplay experience. Under the photographer's direction, I aimed for cool, aloof, and nonchalant facial expressions—not deliberately catering to the lens, but rather channeling the character's innate self-confidence.

Costume comfort was equally crucial. The multi-tiered ruffled skirt and corset imposed certain restrictions on seated postures, so for our posing concept, we opted for side-seated and leaning poses. This allowed the garments to maintain their silhouette while keeping postures elegant. Red nail polish served as a subtle accent, providing an eye-catching detail in close-ups that visually echoed the crimson contacts.

From a technical photography perspective, the contrasting red and blue ambient lights established great visual depth. Cool blue light maintained crisp clarity across the frame, while red mood lighting enhanced the character's persona. The shoot went smoother than expected; the wig texture was superb without harsh reflections, allowing facial shadows to transition smoothly.

For the makeup, I focused on clean, sharp eyeliner paired with red pupils to keep the gaze focused and piercing. The lip shade leaned toward a natural flush, avoiding overly heavy tones to preserve the Cool and edgy maid aesthetic.

The heart of this entire set lies in its narrative depth. Although these are static captures, whether casually raising a glass or resting a chin in contemplation, each shot conveys a lived-in scene straight out of Zenless Zone Zero. In the third close-up, I attempted to break the fourth wall, establishing subtle interaction with the viewer behind the lens.

In post-processing, realistic skin textures were preserved without excessive smoothing, allowing makeup textures and details to shine through cleanly. Minor adjustments were made to ensure the headpiece and wig fit seamlessly at every turning angle. Although the studio space had physical limits, we leveraged the visual depth of the bar counter, bar stools, and bookshelves, using staggered compositions to create rich layers even within a compact area.

The shooting session felt very comfortable, backed by seamless teamwork with the photographer. We spent most of our time adjusting positions and calibrating lighting until we found that perfect beam of light. The final images strike a satisfying balance between character fidelity and photographic artistry. Being able to bring Ellen Joe's temperament to life through my performance and the photographer's lens was a truly rewarding experience.
