"Commander... don't stare at Laffey's ears." I can finally share this set of Cosplay convention photos taken on the second day of Firefly ACG Expo! Portraying Laffey from Azur Lane this time, the overall ensemble felt wonderfully breezy—a clean white-and-blue sailor palette with off-the-shoulder collar tailoring, ideal for May weather without feeling stuffy.
The outfit holds subtle details worth highlighting. While the bodice appears minimalist, trailing chest ribbons and two dainty carrot charms sway gently with each step, making the character instantly recognizable. Black clips along the collar anchor the white silhouette. For headwear, the oversized blue hair bow paired with long white rabbit ears lined with soft pink served as the crown jewel of the look, drawing immediate eyes and capturing her iconic charm.
The lower-body coordination was a standout element. White thigh-high stockings paired with a blue thigh garter bearing her signature emblem fit Laffey's 2D Moe style aesthetic flawlessly. The plush white bunny slippers were a true lifesaver for long hours of standing and walking at the convention, combining adorable visuals with effortless comfort. We shot during optimal late-afternoon sunlight outdoors with photographer Da E Ren. Harnessing natural backlighting masterfully, the sun illuminated my wig, casting a luminous rim light that enhanced hair texture and volume.
As candid Cosplay convention photos, the background retained glimpses of convention-goers, modern architecture, and greenery. I personally adore this genuine convention atmosphere—it brings a lively, spontaneous energy that controlled studio shoots cannot replicate, matching the vibrant event vibe. The photographer left atmospheric headroom rather than completely blurring the background into bokeh, allowing the character to naturally blend into the environment. In expressions and poses, I channeled Laffey’s signature drowsy, slightly dazed, yet endearing demeanor. Gestures such as reaching forward, resting a hand on my head, or lifting one foot amplified her 2D Moe style charm through body language. Makeup remained translucent and natural, with red contact lenses focusing her gaze alongside soft apricot blush that rendered skin tones radiant under sunlight.
Embodying Laffey from a Commander's perspective during May's Firefly ACG Expo was a delightful experience. Despite the bustling crowds, the photographer seized peak moments with vivid lighting and sharp detail. Post-processing remained minimal, preserving authentic skin texture and original fabric grain—aligning with my philosophy of honoring natural realism in cosplay. Here is Laffey's second day at Firefly ACG Expo, cleanly preserved in these memories.
