[Kasugano Sora cosplay] Trying Out This Black and White Qipao Look

Quite a bit of thought went into coordinating this Kasugano Sora cosplay Qipao look. Initially, the main consideration was how to simplify the color scheme, ultimately settling on a predominantly black-and-white palette. The main body of the Qipao is made of matte fabric featuring black ink-bamboo patterns with black piping along the edges, while the cutout design at the collar and chest keeps the overall style from feeling dull. Paired with pure white twintails and black-and-white flower hair accessories, positioning clips were padded inside to keep them secure, and the halo above was fastened with invisible bobby pins so it wouldn't tilt when turning around. Since the Qipao has a shorter cut, it was paired with black garter straps and over-the-knee White stockings. For a cleaner visual finish, glossy black Mary Jane shoes were specifically chosen.

This shoot was done as a mirror selfie, which places relatively high demands on angles and lighting. The afternoon light filtering through the sheer white curtains created a soft ambiance. To find the right composition, I tested several different poses: for instance, kneeling in photo one, but I felt the leg lines were visually cut off; standing on one leg in photo two was lively, but the lighting effect around the waist was layered a bit heavily. Ultimately, the standing pose with legs together in photo three was chosen—not only was the composition the most poised, but it also fully showcased the cut of the Qipao, the seamless transition between the White stockings and garter straps on the thighs, and the color contrast between the shoes and the White stockings.

The trickiest parts to manage during the shoot were the minor props. Holding the long-eared black rabbit occasionally obscured the fabric print, requiring repeated adjustments of arm positioning. The angle of holding the round fan also needed to follow the curves of the arm to prevent looking stiff. The garter straps had to be adjusted to snugly fit the thighs without digging into the skin to ensure the surface of the White stockings stayed smooth. For facial expression control, since my face was hidden by the phone, expressing that tranquil atmosphere relied entirely on body language and posture.

Trying this Qipao infused with Chinese elements paired with classic twintails was quite a fresh experience. Overall, it was a smooth shooting session, with the outfit and prop pairing achieving the desired outcome.
