Choosing to shoot this look beside outdoor stairs with streetlights and stone pillars at night was mainly because the rustic streetlamps and stone scenery matched well with this casual-style outfit. Gazing off-camera or leaning against a pillar looking at the lights brings out a casual yet captivating atmosphere. The black horned hat used in the gear is an accessory I really like, adding a touch of signature character traits to an otherwise summer-casual look.
The black off-the-shoulder cropped top paired with long arm sleeves on the upper body is great for showing off shoulder and neck lines, and these loose sleeves add layering to the cool-toned outfit. The blue denim shorts on the lower half offer a great cinched-waist effect, connected with chains along the edges so the overall silhouette doesn't look thin. While this style looks like everyday wear, every item was chosen thoughtfully to shape character image and visual balance.
Especially the combination of \"chubby legs\" and \"opaque black tights\". I paired black over-the-knee socks with black platform leather shoes. The matte texture of the socks forms a natural contour under night lighting; when combined with ground lights in the environment, it creates alternating shadows across leg lines, making them look more realistic and three-dimensional in this black tights outfit. Platform shoes do add weight, but they elongate lower-body proportions, balancing stability and style in standing poses.
For poses, I chose to lift one leg onto a step with my body leaning toward the stone pillar, which showcases leg extension without looking stiff. The gesture resting a hand on the hat brim in the second photo adds a bit more motion, as if suddenly noticing something. As an agile character in Azur Lane, this balanced stance suited the vibe I wanted to convey.
Night photography that evening was indeed much harder than daytime shooting. The scene only had limited landscape lights plus distant warm street illumination, making light sources quite mixed. We intentionally utilized side-angled light from ground lights on the right-hand wall, focusing illuminated areas on the body's front and legs while forming natural shadows under the brim and jawline. During post-processing color grading, I strove to keep night's original deep blue undertone, creating a warm-cool contrast with near warm-yellow halos to heighten scene atmosphere.
Regarding makeup, the blue contact lenses used happened to unify perfectly with the outfit's cool color tone. Long black hair was also a core part of this look; straight bangs combined with the black-and-blue palette kept the visual focus largely on the face and exposed skin areas of the upper body. Previously in night photography, dark areas easily lost detail, but by slightly increasing exposure compensation and crushing highlights in post-production, we balanced skin texture with environmental midtones.
From concept to final photos, a lot of thought went into balancing element resonance. The black hat and sleeves, along with black tights outfit elements and black platform shoes, made the costume's black system very complete, with denim blue and skin tones serving as vibrant bright accents. In the final pictures, the character's aura stems not only from dress, but largely from the diffuse night light atmosphere. As an attempt to step outside my comfort zone, I'm very satisfied with the results presented by this slightly street-style design.
