Let wither and bloom take their course; follow fate wherever it leads. The shooting location this time was chosen in a spot featuring both dry branches and lush greenery, perfectly fitting the mood I wanted to convey today. For Day 2 of Firefly Comic Con, I cosplayed the JK uniform version of Kasugano Sora. In fact, picking this outfit for the second day of the convention was largely because it is relatively lightweight, making it suitable for walking around the venue for extended periods while nicely restoring the character's everyday aesthetic.
For this styling, I smoothed out the wig again the night before; the long, straight white twin tails accented with black bows on both sides are Sora's iconic signature traits. For attire, I chose an off-white long-sleeved shirt with a brown plaid turn-down collar, paired with a matching plaid pleated skirt. The lower body was coordinated with black pantyhose (Black stockings) and black loafers, giving the overall look a daily academic vibe. To ensure ideal results in photos, wrinkles on the shirt and the smoothness of the skirt were meticulously ironed before heading out. Though small, these details directly determine the overall texture in front of the lens.
In terms of props, I prepared a gray plush bunny and named it Eggplant. It has very long ears and an adorably goofy expression, photographing wonderfully during the shoot. Whether held in my arms or placed on the grass, it added a rich sense of interaction. The bunny's dimensions were also carefully chosen—just right to hold across my chest without obscuring outfit details while serving as a visual focal point in the composition.
The sunlight on the day of the shoot was magnificent. Although Guangzhou's convention weather was slightly humid, on this lawn, sunlight filtering down through the tree branches created beautiful dappled light spots. Photographer @MOX999- is exceptional at capturing light, shadow, and lines. We communicated our desired visual style beforehand, deciding to utilize the surrounding dry branches and grass as our backdrop. We experimented with many diverse compositions: for instance, a standing profile pose holding Eggplant, which showcased long legs and the silhouette of the Black stockings with a sleek, elongated visual effect. When sitting down, raising one hand to shade the sun or clasping hands while looking down in contemplation were all meant to seize a quiet, gentle atmosphere. Because the skirt is relatively short, seated poses required extra care—not only to maintain grace but also to prevent wardrobe malfunctions, which is probably a handy tip when wearing a JK uniform. During breaks, we immediately reviewed the raw shots, tweaking exposure and posture to ensure the high completion of each frame.
On Day 2 of the convention, the foot traffic was massive. Encountering so many friends who love 2D culture and feeling their enthusiasm made the entire venue vibrant. Cosplaying Kasugano Sora was relatively effortless in terms of mobility due to the casual nature of the outfit, and walking through the halls brought many friendly requests for photos. Exchanging shooting experiences and sharing amusing convention moments with fellow fans is always one of the greatest pleasures of attending.
To me, cosplay is far more than simply putting on a wig and costume; more crucially, it is about contemplating a character's state of being within a specific scene. What I wanted to convey today was a sense of serene ease without forced ostentation. There is no need for exaggerated expressions or grand movements; natural body language alone can convey emotion. From early costume preparation and wig styling to on-site discussions of framing and lighting adjustments with the photographer, every single link matters. I truly relish the process of bringing the imagery in my mind to life step by step. Today's Convention photos are sorted out, and every single shot is a cherished memory woven with sunlight, withered trees, and vibrant greenery.
