[Taihou cosplay] Azur Lane Red Dress Retro tavern Shoot: Complete Log

This Azur Lane Taihou shoot took considerable dedication from start to finish. We shot primarily in a Retro tavern setting on the day of production, and the entire process—from finalizing makeup to completing the heavy composite post-production—spanned roughly half a month. Because the venue itself was quite dim, we added two auxiliary lights on the fly to ensure skin tones and the texture of the Black stockings had sufficient depth. When shooting the red dress, the biggest challenge was preserving the fluttering shape of the skirt hem; capturing those flowing moments required multiple takes back and forth, relying on a wind blower to direct the movement of both hair and dress. The heavy compositing phase was very labor-intensive: beyond painting out modern clutter from the background, we had to reconstruct perspective relationships, rebalance the placement of bottles and lighting, and introduce floating dust particles into the air to heighten the mystical ambiance. The first close-up was selected as the cover because its composition is rich and well-filled, capturing facial expressions and gaze effectively, while the Black stockings peeking through the high slit look textured under the lighting, keeping the subject centered rather than pushed toward the edges to firmly hold visual focus. The second wide shot was composed to showcase the spatial depth of the environment. In post-processing, addressing the high reflectivity of the red dress meant independently dodging and burning highlights and shadows across localized zones to prevent a plastic sheen. The core of heavy compositing lies in sculpting three-dimensional facial depth and seamlessly blending flyaway hair strands along the silhouette; we used AI-assisted tools to refine select details, ensuring the perspective aligned faithfully with the character. Makeup-wise, the red smudging around the corners of the eyes was intensified to complement the red pupils and evening gown, deepening the dark retro atmosphere. Positioning the reflector was critical during shooting; otherwise, the natural sheen of skin and the shimmer of the black stockings would bleed together and appear greasy. Every shoot that marries physical sets with digital compositing teaches new lessons. Although the process was grueling, accurately channeling the character's commanding presence and sensual charm makes the outcome of this set immensely rewarding.
