This time, when shooting the official photo set of Herta from Honkai: Star Rail, the focus was to handle several large pieces and details properly. Starting with this ultra-wide, pointed witch hat on my head, the stiffness and support of the brim directly dictate the overall silhouette. Before shooting, I repeatedly adjusted the slightly curled curve of the brim to ensure the hat's lines presented a sharp, tapered look in every single photograph. For the wig, a matte-textured light purple long straight hair was selected. The bangs, sideburns, and back hair were all pinned into fixed positions, ensuring that even with large movements in the photography studio, the hairstyle wouldn't collapse completely.
The main attraction of the upper body is this dark corseted bodice with a sheer mesh illusion. The chest contour, the cinched waistline, and the choker pairing at the collar happen to max out the costume's sense of layering. The detached sleeve design heavily tests hand-raising movements during the shoot. The patchwork of white and light purple sheer mesh, combined with the knotted satin ribbons at the elbows, maintains the flowing feel of the sleeves whether hanging down naturally or making spell-casting gestures. The interior of the lower body consists of a white short petticoat underneath, with a deep blue overskirt featuring massive silver geometric scroll patterns worn on the outside. This overskirt has an excellent drape, and to highlight its patterns, a cool-toned side light was specially used during lighting to reinforce the reflective effect of the fabric.
The most eye-catching configuration of this style is still the leg pairing. The asymmetrical leg harness on one side, combined with semi-sheer black stockings, and that pair of black high-top lace-up combat boots covered in metal buckles on the feet, beautifully settles the visual center of gravity down firmly while elongating the leg proportions. A single boot's weight is actually not light; the crisscross boot laces were repeatedly tightened for several rounds before shooting. To capture the stiff, upright feel of the boot shaft, I couldn't slacken the leg muscles even while sitting. The magic staff held in hand was another focus of this shoot; the diamond-shaped gemstone at the top of the staff, the purple primary color tone, the gold decorations, and the white geometric outer frame required careful verification of the interlocking precision at every single connection point to ensure there was no redundant shaking when swinging the prop.
Regarding the concept of shooting postures, the full standing pose in Figure 1 mainly displays the overall aura, with the center of gravity between both feet and the prop resting vertically on the ground, completely revealing the styling of the staff and the front patterns of the long skirt hem. The sitting pose in Figure 2 extends the legs completely suspended toward the camera; this angle provides a very sufficient close-up of the boot soles, laces, and the sheen of the stockings on the legs, while the hand gesture also makes a dynamic movement of spell-casting without an actual object, simulating the light and brisk rhythm of the character in battle. Figure 3 is a定妆 perspective that I personally favor: sitting while leaning a single hand on the cheek, holding the staff horizontally on the other side, with a relatively relaxed gaze making eye contact with the lens, which is perfect as a cover to present the contrasting aesthetic among the skirt hem, bodice, and leg lines.
The materials utilized for the entire costume this time are incredibly rich, mixing polyester, mesh sheer, faux leather, and thick metal buckles together, presenting different textures under different side backlighting. During the shoot, traditional creamy warm lights were intentionally avoided, and cool-toned studio lights were selected instead to create a better echo with the character's original light purple hair color and dark-toned clothing. Many details at the joints between the props and costumes were manually reinforced, giving the weight held in hand a great sense of reality, which is also the guarantee of presenting texture in a cosplay photoshoot. Although crouching down to arrange the skirt hem and adjusting the boot buckles consumed quite a bit of time, seeing the final photos preserve the entire atmosphere of this outfit makes all this dedication highly worthwhile.
