[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] The broom and lantern in the winter night

This shoot happened to catch a winter snow. The temperature was indeed very low, but the process of preparing this Marisa Kirisame cosplay outfit was still full of a sense of achievement. When I got the costume, the first thing I noticed was the pattern of this black double-breasted coat. Along with the white ruffled neckline and cuffs, the classic black-and-white color scheme makes the character highly recognizable even in a dark-toned snow scene.

For the wig, I chose a thick blonde long straight wig, with thin braids on both sides to fix it, paired with a pointed wide-brimmed witch hat, which instantly brought out the sense of styling. The wide-brimmed hat and the cut of the coat really test the angles during shooting; a slight head tilt can reveal a quite exquisite side profile. I also brought along that very iconic broom prop, with its handle featuring a twisted black-and-white spiral shape adorned with golden stars and ribbon bows. Additionally, I specially selected a vintage-style lantern. After lighting the warm yellow wick inside, it forms a stark contrast with the bluish snow environment outside. This interwoven feeling of warm and cool light completely amps up the atmosphere, providing a true witch photoshoot vibe.

The shooting day coincided with a very atmospheric European vintage building venue. Stone walls, wooden window and door frames, along with the ground covered in accumulated snow, naturally built a visual sense of a magical winter night. During the actual shoot, the photographer @云间glow captured the light and shadow exceptionally well. Across several different scenes, whether sitting on a bench or leaning against a glass door, every shot captured an amazing texture. For the shot where I leaned against the door with one leg raised, because the coat's hem was open, it revealed the patched white skirt, which, combined with the black buckled ankle boots on my feet, beautifully showcased the layers of the entire look.

Actually, performing leg lifts or jumping actions in this kind of snow really tests one's center of gravity control, as the boot soles easily slip on the snow surface, and any instability will affect the expression and posture. Fortunately, everyone cooperated quite smoothly, the capture rhythm was very fast, and the output photos were satisfying. The effect of the lantern was especially prominent in the night, particularly in front of the archway where snow was falling, as the light illuminated the strands of snow in the air, offering a delicate cinematic quality that gives off that winter magic vibe without too much color grading.

The material of the clothes is actually quite thick. The double-breasted coat and the layered ruffles inside look complex but are relatively convenient to put on and take off, and the cold protection outdoors is decent, preventing the expression management from being affected by being frozen stiff. The accessories for this look are also numerous—details like gloves, the bowtie at the collar, and the star pendant might not be obvious in wide shots, but in close-up shots, they greatly enrich the character.

Regarding the props, holding that broom for a long time actually makes the wrists a bit sore. After all, the wooden handle has some weight, and coordinating it with the lantern movements requires repeatedly adjusting the exertion points of both hands to strike that natural and slightly playful magical girl stance. In particular, I tried a few sets of actions with the center of gravity on one leg, letting the skirt drape down naturally to reveal the leg lines and those vintage motorcycle-style Martin boots, which met the warmth needs of winter travel without making the whole outfit look bulky.

This shoot overall experimented with composition styles that have a strong sense of scene narrative. The European archways, streetlamps, and courtyard seats in the background all merged into the character's timeline. Furthermore, some dynamic snapshots during the shoot prevented the photo set from looking rigid due to static posing. Each photo presents a strong storytelling element, as if on this magical midnight with heavy snow, the witch accidentally passed by this quiet courtyard with her broom and lantern. To be honest, being able to record this outfit filled with a magical aura in this season and venue counts as a very worthwhile winter snow scene cosplay project for this Touhou Project creation.
