[Ruan Mei Cosplay] A Leisurely Moment in Honkai: Star Rail

Flower branches, white cranes, and carved wooden lattices build a serene backdrop, and I've finally sorted through these archived photos of my Ruan Mei cosplay.

A lot of thought went into the costume's details. The upper body's white off-the-shoulder ruffle design fits snugly against the wide choker on my neck, with that cyan-green gem serving as a perfect focal point. The main color scheme is a color-block of peacock blue and white, accented nicely by the floral ornament at the waist, giving the overall silhouette a clean, crisp line. To match the character setting, I added a cyan-green gradient to the tips of the hair and wore cyan contact lenses, hoping to visually capture her gentle yet cool, aloof temperament.

During the shoot, we set up a purplish-blue ambient light on location, casting over the white fur seat cushion and glossy floor to create a soft, ethereal atmosphere. Cold-toned lighting requires careful handling of skin tones; in post-processing, I paid special attention to balancing skin tones and white balance, ensuring that while the cool lighting built up mystery, the skin texture remained clear and translucent.

I communicated extensively with the photographer regarding poses and props. For example, the cyan-green yueqin nearby and the round fan in my hand serve as natural visual extensions, keeping the composition engaging. Seated poses highlight the design of the gown's hemline and stockings, drawing the visual focus naturally toward facial expressions and body language. We experimented with various angles during the shoot, and the selected photos feature balanced compositions where the wooden window lattice backdrop creates a wonderful textural contrast against the soft silk fabric.

Driven by an obsession with details, I tried two different footwear styling options for this shoot. In the first photo, I paired the outfit with peacock-blue block heels featuring metallic bow accents on the toes, perfectly matching the dress color scheme. Accented by a white lace garter band at the ankle, the look feels crisp yet elegant. In the other two photos, I went barefoot with a ruby-toned anklet, a subtle contrast that conveys a softer, more relaxed everyday feel. This interchangeable accessory approach added a richer, life-like atmosphere to the costume.

Throughout the shoot, I strived to capture Ruan Mei's relaxed yet noble state of being in this Role-playing game cosplay. She isn't an aggressive character, but rather possesses a quiet sense of detachment. Therefore, in controlling expressions and posture, I intentionally slowed down the pacing, steering clear of overly dramatic movements. Each time the shutter clicked, my mood felt infected by the quiet set, becoming profoundly peaceful. Completing a photoset that satisfies oneself offers an irreplaceable sense of achievement when looking back.

Photography and post-processing are continuous processes of mutual adaptation. Whenever I receive a costume, I ponder how to embody the character's temperament through lighting, setting, and my own interpretation. This full immersion allows me to experience the pure joy this Honkai: Star Rail cosplay hobby brings with every shutter click.
