Headed to the convention venue after changing into this cosplay outfit with a haute couture feel that combines animal ears and golden armor, collaborating with photographer @淮一 to shoot this set of cat-themed convention photos. Today I'm here to share the details about this look and the shoot with everyone.
To restore the official setting, this outfit features a combination of a glossy black leather body and glossy golden long boots. The leather is very form-fitting and elastic. Under the complex overhead lighting at the exhibition venue, the reflection effect of the leather surface was fully maxed out, making the actual captured sheen and metallic texture look even brighter than what is seen with the naked eye. The blue-and-pink gradient spherical shoulder armor, the black accessories on the chest, and the golden sharp claws on the hands are the visual highlights of the entire look, and they are also the interaction props I used most frequently when posing on-site. However, it's worth noting that this kind of glossy leather clothing also means that you cannot make overly large stretching movements when posing, otherwise it can easily generate unsightly wrinkles. When shooting a pose like Photo 5, where one leg is raised high to mimic a small animal stretching, it heavily tests my personal body balance and core control.
The fluffy white animal tail at the back, paired with the black leather belt and golden rings design, looks exceptionally agile when walking or turning around. To make the tail present a fluffy and natural curve in the frame, a rigid support was specially added inside the costume, making it convenient to bend into various angles during shooting. Especially in a composition like Photo 2, where I turn sideways and look back while leaning on a folding ladder, the direction of the tail directly determines the sense of extension and fullness of the entire screen lines.
The lighting at the convention venue was actually very chaotic, with passersby constantly weaving back and forth in the background. The photographer specially used a large-aperture lens this time to softly blur out the display stands, lights, and crowds in the background, thereby concentrating the entire visual focus on the character's expression and gaze. The light blue colored contacts paired with the silver-gray short hair naturally bring a cool temperament visually, but with the decoration of the cat ears and animal tail, it cleverly neutralizes into an approachable and playful contrast. During the shooting process, amidst the constant sound of the photographer's shutter clicking, I tried various angles and postures, such as extending sharp claws like a small animal, half-holding a fist in front of my chest, and playfully standing on one leg. Although the on-site environment was noisy and bustling, focusing on my state in front of the lens actually helped me better capture the character's agile and nimble charm.
In terms of makeup, the entire look focused on being clean and clear along with detailed eye presentation. The naturally enlarged colored contacts paired with multi-layered eyeshadow blending gave the face more of a two-dimensional manga feel. During post-processing, I also specifically asked the photographer to preserve the real texture of the leather and the reflections of the metal accessories without over-smoothing or heavy retouching, which truly meets the output standards of coexistence between real texture and a sense of power at the exhibition venue.
Walking through the convention crowd in this highly recognizable black, gold, and blue color scheme outfit certainly attracted a lot of eyes, and many passing fellow fans would also take out their phones to snap photos for memory after asking for permission. The collaboration with the photographer this time was very pleasant; because he is excellent at catching dynamic moments, this finalized set of convention photos features both structurally orderly static poses and a few hints of dynamic inclinations. Expressing the character's personality keynote concretely through one's own body language is precisely the most fascinating part of the cosplay process.
