[March 7th Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail New Outfit—The Candied Hawthorn Prop is Such a Big Plus!

Cosplaying March 7th's new outfit has been an incredibly fun journey, from the moment I received the costume to the final output of the photos. This outfit itself is highly conspicuous at conventions; the pink-and-blue color collision paired with large areas of red looks exceptionally energetic against a dark background. When I first saw the original design draft, I felt that the red coat and white inner layer created a powerful visual contrast, making it especially suitable for shooting under intense on-site flashes.

Speaking of that little \"pink armpit hair\" internet interlude, it was truly just a visual illusion caused by loose wig fibers under specific lighting and arm-raising angles, paired with a close shooting distance where overlapping shadows created that exact misconception. I couldn't help but laugh when looking back at the raw photos myself, but this unexpected \"little blooper\" actually made the shoot much more memorable. To avoid this angle, I intentionally adjusted my arm poses during the shoot, and the photographer and I maintained excellent chemistry.

Restyling the wig for this cosplay was actually quite a test of skill. The two small hair buns on top of the head need to be rounded and full, while the hair tips must retain a light, fluttering flow. I used half a bottle of hairspray for shaping, and fortunately, the final effect turned out beautifully fluffy. Paired with the golden four-leaf clover hair accessory and the blue-pink spliced earrings on both sides, the overall sense of styling was instantly maxed out. However, you must pay attention to the placement of these hair accessories; if they are even slightly tilted, it will easily look top-heavy.

The layers and metallic hardware accessories of the costume are abundant. The outer layer of the outfit uses a thick red fabric with delicate gold borders and 3D floral ornaments. While the design of the white lantern sleeves looks beautiful, the cuffs can be a bit draggy when walking around the convention hall, so I simply used the straps of my black gloves to slightly cinch them for easier movement. The large light blue and gold shield-shaped emblem on the chest is highly eye-catching, beautifully elongating the proportions of my upper body.

For the lower half, the white over-the-knee socks paired with black straps and garters under the short skirt not only echo the leg lines but also add a touch of sharpness to the design. Wearing the leg straps for a long time actually leaves some pressure marks, so I had to micro-adjust their placement during shooting breaks to keep things looking clean on camera. The candied hawthorn prop is a stroke of genius in this look; its red spheres echo the red elements of the costume, and holding it—whether raised high or hanging naturally—instantly makes the character look much more playful and lively.

Although the shooting time at the convention wasn't long, the success rate of the photos was incredibly high, largely thanks to the photographer's quick-fire snapshots. Amidst the noisy surrounding environment, they were able to accurately capture my most natural expressions and postures. The moment I closed my eyes to smile or reached up with one hand to adjust my hair, the shutter clicked, leaving those beautiful frames with exceptionally clear gazes.

When I received the convention photos and looked closely, my skin tone had a gorgeous luminous glow, and there was no aggressive skin-smoothing that would ruin the fabric textures of the costume. This is exactly how cosplay should be: on-point styling, dedicated shooting, and strong interaction with props. There was no deliberate chase after an overly altered internet-celebrity look, but rather a faithful presentation of the character's original cheerful and energetic nature. Furthermore, the color variations of the wig in actual shooting were highly interesting—looking bright pink under the flash and turning matte pink in dimmer ambient light, which we made some careful compromises to preserve in post-processing.

Lastly, I have to praise those black half-finger gloves; the anti-slip rubber particles on the palm area provided excellent grip when holding the wooden stick of the candied hawthorns, which was an unexpectedly practical detail. I hope to have more opportunities to cosplay such color-rich characters in the future, showcasing a different 2D charm in front of the lens.
