[March 7th cosplay] If Life Were a Dream, Why Awaken: A Fleeting Moment on the Xianzhou

The theme for this photoshoot was March 7th's Xianzhou outfit from Honkai: Star Rail. Preparing the costume and props took considerable time from concept to execution, especially the decorative umbrella adorned with tassels and floral accents—securing the beaded strands alone required multiple adjustments. The set was arranged with calligraphy scrolls, a white porcelain lotus, and a long sword to evoke a half-dreaming, half-awake classical ambiance. We chose a warm golden tone as the primary light source, illuminating my face and the umbrella canopy to naturally showcase the textures of the red outer robe and White thigh-highs outfit.

Sitting seiza-style on the mat while holding the umbrella handle with my body leaning slightly forward, I strove to capture March 7th's signature blend of lively vivacity and gentle grace. In post-production, we avoided heavy manipulation, mainly fine-tuning the color temperature to preserve the organic light-and-shadow layering from the shoot. The wig features a custom pink gradient, with hair accessories and earrings meticulously replicating character details. Every shoot brings pleasant surprises—for instance, the calligraphy on the scroll was handwritten on the spot by a photographer friend, adding an authentic touch of scholarly refinement to the scene.

Lighting conditions shifted rapidly on the day of the shoot, so we seized the golden hour to capture several angles, ultimately selecting this frame with the most balanced composition. Although there are numerous elements in the Xianzhou traditional style, keeping the character as the visual focal point while using surrounding props to enrich the storytelling felt just right. Recreating this styling—fusing traditional aesthetics with sci-fi settings—truly tests coordination and scene staging. I'm thrilled to have completed this creative Anime-style photography piece together with my photography partner.
