During the planning phase of this snow portrait photoshoot, we decided to go for a cool, serene, and flowing style. My first impression of this costume was the ultimate clash of white and red—white hair, red eyes, combined with a modified traditional Japanese-style outfit dominated by pure white and bright red, which perfectly aligns with the visual tension of a snowy environment. The temperature on the day of the shoot was actually very low; wearing this outfit on the outdoor snow while holding a white prop katana, to tell the truth, every single finger was protesting, but to guarantee the shooting results, I still persisted through the full-day shoot.

I think the design details of the costume are very interesting. The main fabric adopts slightly glossy white satin, which is not only warm but also creates a soft highlight under the reflection of the snow. The patchwork of semi-transparent red mesh tulle gives the traditional Japanese-style cut a slice of airy and modern sense. The off-the-shoulder way of wearing, combined with the complex waist tie-knots, beautifully outlines the silhouette of the body in the wind and snow, retaining the underlying roots of ancient style cosplay elements while losing none of the matching tension of anime-style photography. The paired white uchigatana prop features a unified color scheme and a natural blade curve; what leaves me most satisfied is the long tassel under the hilt, which adds a sense of dynamic motion and flowing elegance to the frame when swinging the blade and turning around. The colored contact lenses were chosen in a vivid red shade, forming a powerful warm-and-cool contrast with the white wig, cooperating with clean eye makeup in hopes of presenting the character's aloof and cool-headed expression amid the wind and snow before the lens.

During the shoot, we tried a few different compositions. The first photo is a half-body close-up, building a sense of communication between the character and the audience by looking straight into the lens; the second photo is looking back while lifting the blade, focusing on displaying the complexity of the back belt and the design of the wide sleeves; the third photo is holding the blade from a profile view, combined with the moon gate and wooden fence in the background to outline the character's silhouette; the fourth photo selects a sitting pose, cooperating with the blue Japanese-style oil-paper umbrella in the background to display the leg lines and the layering of the lower half of the costume, exposing part of the legs to allow a touch of relaxation amid the coolness. The continuity of this set of movements is very important; I used the white blade to perform a semi-drawn blade action to simulate that combat-ready posture that could unsheathe at any second.

In terms of light and shadow processing, the photographer used high-key lighting paired with a large aperture, giving the overall frame an illustration-like soft texture and successfully avoiding the heavy shadow problem easily generated by intense snow light. Post-production preserved the cool-white tones of the snow scene without over-rendering colors, placing the heavy focus on the granular feel of the snowflakes and the translucency of the character's skin tone; the red, white, and black color scheme appeared exceptionally filled with a sense of presence under the cool-toned snowy environment. When it was snowing, a few snowflakes landed on the hair strands and hilt; this kind of detail naturally dissolving into the scene instead carried more soul than a deliberately arranged look. Due to the strong outdoor wind, the wig and tassels were frequently blown into a mess; catching the most perfect frame amid the wind and snow truly required a bit of patience and luck.

This photoshoot output allows me to perceive that unique temperament brought by a snowy day—chilly and pure. On the use of equipment, we tried our best to guarantee the completeness of a single composition, so every single image can basically be brought out directly to serve as a cover without excessive cropping. This set of photos wants to present not just an external recreation of the character, but an atmospheric vibe of winter's serenity and resilience coexisting. Combining this suit of clothes and props with a snowy day was also a solution finalized after repeated communication with the photographer.
