[Thelema cosplay] Dark Aristocratic Red & Black Aesthetics in Honkai Impact 3rd

Finally sharing this Thelema cosplay photo set! The shoot took place mainly in a studio, with plenty of thought put into pre-production. The wig is a custom silver-white long straight style, and the little red horns on top and at the sides were wig accessories that I secured piece by piece, striving for complete fidelity. In terms of makeup, to match the character's cool, haughty demeanor, I used a porcelain-pale foundation, heavy reddish-pink eyeshadow, striking bright blue contact lenses, and deep red lipstick to project a chilling, doll-like presence.

The costume is packed with intricate details. The red dress is made of lustrous velvet; the off-the-shoulder voluminous sleeves and ruffled neckline look opulent, though they felt slightly heavy when worn. It features silver and purple breastplate armor on the chest, along with intricate lacing designs across the back and waist, which took considerable time to put on and required assistance to cinch tightly. The lower half features a black wave-cut miniskirt with subtle silver cross patterns, trimmed with red bows along the edges. On my legs are black over-the-knee Stockings paired with black high-heeled tall boots laced with red straps, complemented by black lace gloves. While stunning, the outfit restricts mobility, requiring careful steps to avoid catching the skirt hem on the high heels.

We chose a vintage-style study as our set. The backdrop featured thick deep-red velvet curtains, flanked by wooden bookshelves filled with display books and carved vintage armchairs. This setting perfectly resonated with the character's mysterious, dark aristocratic aura. We rotated through various props during shooting. We started with chess pieces, sitting by the table holding a piece in a contemplative pose, or fiddling with a piece in hand to reflect the character's desire for control. Next, we swapped to white roses for several half-body close-ups, where the red dress and white blossoms formed a striking contrast. We also used red apples; holding the apple while gazing into the lens carried a mood where temptation and danger coexisted. Finally, holding a crystal candelabra while standing on one leg in front of the red curtain for a full-body shot subtly showcased the lines of the Stockings and legs with a centered, visually tense composition captured brilliantly by my photographer.

The chemistry with the photographer was seamless this time. We mainly used warm red spotlights to create strong chiaroscuro contrast, which looked especially rich when hitting the red dress and face. Although holding poses was tiring and the dress was heavy, the final results were deeply satisfying. This Thelema styling required multiple adjustments on set—such as the positioning of the voluminous sleeves, the tension of the boot straps, and the alignment of the wig bangs—all of which took considerable time, all to recreate the character's imposing aura to the fullest extent.
