[Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay] Resonating with the Ocean in a Blue and White Dreamscape

The Genshin Impact Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay I'm sharing today is the result of half a month of preparation with my team. For the costume, the visual core is focused on this blue and white dress with jellyfish elements. The oversized gradient bow on the chest was crafted from non-slip satin combined with subtly shimmering chiffon to achieve that lightweight, pearlescent texture underwater. The two separate, wide off-the-shoulder sleeves feature custom white water ripples and splash patterns on a dark blue base, with gold tassels and translucent light purple tulle at the cuffs that sway like swimming fish as I move.

The dark choker around the neck and the teardrop-shaped sapphire necklace add a touch of depth to the overall bright aesthetic, grounding the visual center of the image. What tested our patience the most were these white over-the-knee stockings, which feature intricate cutout strappy designs. To make the lines look perfectly fitted to the legs on camera, we spent over twenty minutes making adjustments before shooting—readjusting them every time I slightly squatted—but the resulting extension of the leg lines in the final photos was definitely worth it.

For makeup and hair accessories, I chose a pink-and-blue twin-tail wig paired with bionic ears on top, aiming to resonate with the character's cute yet serene and aloof temperament in the game. The eye makeup used subtle pink-and-blue shimmer to make the eyes appear softer and clearer on camera. When setting up the stage, we used a huge mirror acrylic sheet as the floor to recreate clear water reflections. For the transparent jellyfish props suspended above, we hung them using thin fishing lines and lit them with cool-toned LED strips to create a three-dimensional weightlessness in a dreamy jellyfish scene. The white shell base and artificial daisies dotted around elevated the purity of the overall scene.

Shooting in the studio was actually quite challenging. The outfit had many structural components, the studio air conditioning was cold, and the corset around the waist was tied quite tightly, requiring me to grit my teeth and engage my core strength to maintain a relaxed posture. The selected photos show me raising my arm naturally with my head slightly tilted to one side; I wanted to use this gentle body language to showcase the calm and approachable nature of the Hydro element. The platform geta were actually difficult to balance in, so I had to be very careful with weight shifts to keep my ankles from wobbling, but I'm satisfied with the natural, comfortable standing posture achieved in the final shots.

In post-processing, I minimized heavy filter layering, mainly tuning down warm colors in the environment slightly to make the blue tones look more transparent and crisp, while gently brightening the white flowers reflecting on the water surface to give the highlights a shimmering effect. This dreamlike, underwater-style anime-style photography relies heavily on the synergy between lighting setup in pre-production and color grading in post-production. For every photoshoot, from the initial design concept to final execution, the hard work in cosplay photography is instantly comforted the moment the shutter clicks. Whether it's recreating a character's appearance or conveying their inner aura, recording this creative process through photos is a wonderful experience in itself.
