[Shark girl cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Street Night Shoot: No Yadea Caught Today Either

Heading out with this complete gear for a night shoot today was quite brisk temperature-wise, but thankfully the resulting frames turned out fantastic. Cosplaying the Shark girl from Zenless Zone Zero was an instant decision for me—the moment I laid eyes on her visual design, I fell in love with it, so I swiftly arranged this photo set.

The wig is a cropped bob featuring a black-and-orange split, where the vivid orange at the tips pops intensely under nocturnal streetlights. To capture that messy, untamed street edge, I specifically asked the wig stylist to build in layered texturing rather than brushing it overly smooth. Yellow goggles rest atop my head, flanked by several metallic hairpins. These metal clips carry noticeable weight and had to be clamped firmly in place to avoid slipping off at the slightest movement during shooting.

For the wardrobe, the inner layer is a black halter crop top accented with orange-and-white patterns across the chest. Layered over it is a loose black bomber jacket lined with radiant neon orange. Wearing the jacket draped halfway off the shoulders best flatters the lines of the shoulders and back. For the lower half, I styled blue denim shorts paired with a black thigh strap, visually elongating my proportions. Footwear consisted of chunky white platform sneakers with crew socks, facilitating running around and dropping into various low crouching stances. The overarching aesthetic leans heavily into techwear and street fashion.

Beyond the lollipop prop, the most eye-catching element was undeniably the colossal monochrome Shark tail prop. The tail anchors behind the waist via a sturdy harness belt; due to its sheer volume, executing poses required deliberate engagement of the lower back and core. To capture natural framing, many poses involved turning sideways or using optical perspective to let the tail enter the edge of the frame—such as perching atop guardrails or crouching at the curb.

For locations, we chose nocturnal urban streets and underground pedestrian passages. Night portraiture places rigorous demands on illumination: the photographer leveraged roadside cyan cool ambient light against the warm amber glow of traffic signals, creating a high-contrast Cyberpunk night view. To keep facial lighting clean and flattering, a diffused soft light was introduced as a gentle fill. We explored diverse angles, from low angles accentuating leg lines to high angles capturing intricate costume textures. In post-color grading, maintaining the black-and-orange contrast ensured the overarching palette stayed faithful to the game's signature urban-street aesthetic.

The original plan was to hunt down a Yadea electric scooter as a collaborative prop for the shoot. However, after circling the neighborhood and checking multiple storefronts without finding a suitable one, we had to drop the concept and carry the entire shoot purely with character presence and the street setting. Yet omitting the vehicle actually allowed the camera to focus more sharply on the intricate details of the costume and props.

Looking across the finished photo set, my absolute favorites remain the frames utilizing blue neon sources and orange guardrails in the foreground, delivering exceptionally rich chromatic layering. Because the massive tail prop easily drags along the ground and gets dirty, I had to carry it carefully between takes—a mini physical workout in its own right.
