[Astra Yao Cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: Black and Gold Textured Details in Convention Photos

The material contrast in this outfit is actually quite interesting. The main body uses glossy black leather, which, paired with two large metal rings and white beads on the chest, instantly sets a refined tone imbued with mechanical elegance. The sleeves are my favorite design feature—they aren't attached to the shoulders, but secured via arm straps, with wide, frilled white cuffs that look very flowy. The lower hem consists of a layered black skirt edged with white trim and dotted with delicate star-shaped ornaments. Paired with white tights as part of a White thigh-highs outfit and black platform heels decorated with white pearls, it gives the entire look a striking rhythm amid the dark color palette.

These Convention photos were actually shot quite hastily. The location was the first-floor hall of the venue, where the floor was gray polished terrazzo, the lighting was messy, and there were high ceilings with exposed pipes. Photographer @龙骧nightfall is very skilled at capturing dynamic shots in darker venues like this. He used relatively strong direct lighting, turning this drab garage-like environment into a clean, studio-like texture where the main subject stands out and shadows are well-controlled. The heels and white tights were definitely bonus elements; my feet got a bit tired from standing in them for long periods, but the final photos were completely worth it.

The prop staff was also a major key element. It has an overall weathered metallic look, with wrapped textures along the shaft and a structure at the top featuring a ring encircling a white disc, topped with a small blue-and-white orb ornament. Holding this prop was quite heavy, but it created a strong sense of power when posing. During the shoot, I needed to prop it against the ground with one hand or hold it level, which required a bit of wrist and arm control. The first photo with one hand propping it on the ground is my personal favorite—it feels like I owned the room, and the natural cross-legged standing stance displayed my leg lines beautifully.

Returning to the line mentioned in the title, I think being recognized by others is actually a wonderful thing, especially since convention photos like these mostly record one's state at the moment. When you meticulously prepare a suit of gear, spend time researching how to clip the wig naturally and adjust the corset buckles for a closer fit, and then get recognized and called by character name at first sight by fellow fans at the venue, that sense of resonance—that "they get you" feeling—is immensely rewarding. I also tried my best to recreate the character's specific, confident expression, using Cosplay photography skills, makeup, and micro-expressions to match her original aura. It's not just about wearing identical clothes; details in gaze and posture are equally key.

Many people feel convention photos are just casual check-in snaps, but whether shooting outdoors or at conventions, the photographer's lighting, angle choices, and the lively convention atmosphere filled with crowds give the character new vitality. This time, we shot several sets in different states—beyond formal standing poses, there were close-ups and interactive postures. In the close-up shots, I did some detailed posing, such as resting my chin on one hand, expressing a gaze that was slightly playful yet cautiously alert.

Looking back at this photoset now, wearing platform shoes while standing in an industrial-style space unexpectedly complements the character's black-and-gold tech aesthetic very well. On the shooting day, many passersby walked past the perimeter and other photographers were shooting, but we efficiently completed the first round of Convention photos in a relatively quiet corner. Although running around for shots was physically exhausting, presenting my hard work and having it seen by everyone is in itself a fantastic way to connect. There are still many refined details waiting to be polished for this set of convention photos, and I hope everyone can feel the charm of this black-and-gold outfit.
