[Modernia cosplay] Goddess of Victory: Nikke: Second Affection Ruins Convention Photo

For this convention photo shoot featuring Modernia from Goddess of Victory: Nikke, we scouted an abandoned industrial plant as our location. Because her backstory is steeped in post-apocalyptic wasteland and sci-fi themes, the rugged concrete setting served as the perfect foil for her icy, formidable presence.

The black leather combat suit delivers an intense visual impact. With golden starburst emblems across the chest and bold cutouts along the waist, it places genuine demands on silhouette fit; I adjusted the harness straps meticulously before shooting to ensure a snug contour. The mini skirt is cut quite short, styled with intricate strappy black over-the-knee stockings and high heels, which required extreme caution when stepping across the rubble-strewn floor to avoid tripping.

The colossal black mechanical armament in hand was the biggest challenge on set—it was genuinely heavy, and combined with the mechanical wings glowing with purple-pink neon effects, holding poses for extended takes became a brutal test of core stability and arm endurance. To convey an unyielding resolve to shield the Commander, I adjusted my footing several times, resting weight on my back leg while keeping my shoulders relaxed so the weapon felt like a natural extension of my body.

Makeup-wise, to honor Modernia's design, the eyes incorporated reddish-brown cosmetic contact lenses paired with blended crimson eyeshadow to evoke an aloofness laced with danger. Straight silvery-white hair tangles easily in the gusts sweeping through ruins, requiring frequent spritzes of hairspray along the bangs and around the black metallic headpiece.

The fog machine on set played a massive role: purplish-pink mist drifting through the air, combined with weathered radiation warning signs painted on the background wall, elevated the cinematic atmosphere tremendously. Throughout the session, I had to keep a composed, neutral expression to reflect Modernia's machine-like chill, while subtly allowing ripples of that 'Second Affection' to flicker within my gaze.

To do justice to this series, extensive preparation took place behind the scenes. Black leather can easily catch harsh specular glare under strong lights, so the photographer constantly repositioned softboxes and side fills to yield an ideal matte leather sheen. I also weathered the prop weapon's paint job, reinforcing edge scuffs and the joints connecting the illuminated LED strips so macro close-ups would hold up under scrutiny. While the tall heels elongated my silhouette, navigating uneven debris in them was no small feat; I nearly stumbled on jagged gravel several times, thankfully saved by my wonderful support crew.

Regarding emotional expression, Modernia undergoes a profoundly complex emotional evolution. I constantly reflected on how to convey the restraint and loyalty unique to a mechanical being within static photography. When posing, I envisioned myself having just retreated from a brutal battlefield, reeking of gunsmoke, finally letting my guard down before the lens (before you). Thus, while the postures remained powerful and defensive, I wanted my gaze to radiate pure focus and trust. That is also why the purple-crimson glowing mecha wings were chosen—they serve not merely as weaponry, but as an outward manifestation of inner emotion.

Amid the interplay of light and shadow across the ruins, complemented by distant embers and cool overhead illumination, these photos achieved their palpable tension. From prop textures to set dressing, every detail was carefully refined. To bring forth Modernia at her peak, I studied in-game combat choreography and idle stances, aiming to freeze dynamic motion into still frames. The overarching takeaway from this shoot is that recreating the synthesis of machine and humanity requires more than just costumes and gear—it demands embracing her steadfast devotion to protect even amid desolation. Every on-location convention photo deepens my connection to the character, and I am immensely grateful to the photographer and logistics team whose collaborative dedication in a harsh environment brought this vision into vivid reality.
