This set of Herta cosplay photos was taken at the official booth during this year's Firefly ACG Expo. To prepare for the convention, I started working on this full outfit half a month in advance. The costume features elaborate layering, especially the spliced corset bodice on top, which was reinforced with internal boning to achieve a crisp, structured silhouette. The trailing purple rear hemline boasts exquisite damask prints, and the silver edge piping was refinished to ensure it looked luxurious rather than cheap under the harsh convention spotlights.

The oversized witch hat was undeniably the visual centerpiece. I adjusted the brim width and stiffness multiple times, as large hats easily sag in crowded convention halls. For the wig, I selected a cool-toned light silvery-purple with neat blunt bangs, carefully styling face-framing side strands to sculpt my facial contours. For makeup, to harmonize with the overall purple-blue palette, I used purplish-pink eyeshadow paired with pale purple contact lenses, aiming to give my gaze an aloof, crystalline depth.

The large staff prop in hand was truly heavy! Its geometric headpiece was molded from lightweight casting materials and inlaid with purple acrylic; although we worked hard to minimize weight, holding it aloft for posing throughout the venue was quite an endurance test for my arms. When wielding the staff, keeping balanced was crucial—gripping it with too much tension made poses appear rigid on camera.

The booth setting matched the lore brilliantly: the starry reflective floor combined with vintage dark timber bookshelves dialed the atmosphere up to eleven. Seated on the carved golden-trimmed armchair upholstered in purple velvet demanded mindful posture: keeping the spine upright while gently extending one leg flattered the sleek contours of the black Stockings and highlighted the boot craftsmanship. The books scattered nearby served as fantastic interactive props; holding one or resting it by my lap deepened the narrative storytelling of each shot. Because the convention floor was bustling and noisy with complex ambient lighting, finding clean angles to bypass crowds and utilizing the booth spotlights was essential. When posing, I paid close attention to lengthening my arms and dropping my shoulders to keep my physical posture looking light and graceful.

Sorting through these photos brought back that exhilarating, packed energy of the convention day. To make the skirt train flare out with a gorgeous arc, invisible craft wires were sewn inside. While the boots were mid-calf, walking in them all day across the venue was definitely exhausting. Behind every seemingly effortless shot lies endless resetting of the hemline, verifying prop angles, and coordinating framing with the photographer. Dark fantasy concepts place particularly high demands on lighting and shadows; huge thanks go to the photographer for patiently capturing every nuance. Bringing my understanding of a character to life through the lens is the greatest joy of cosplaying. The outfit was intricate and involved, but walking around the booth in it made every bit of effort worth it. If you visit conventions, definitely check out the official booths—their set designs make for incredible photos!
