Today is a special dayâitâs March 7th, and also the birthday of the character Iâm cosplaying, March 7th from Honkai: Star Rail. Being able to wear this carefully prepared winter star-and-snow themed outfit on such a day, and taking commemorative photos in the snow, makes the entire winter feel illuminated.
The costume details are incredibly striking: long hair with a pink-and-white gradient, blue-tipped highlights, topped with a delicate ice crystal crown. Under the contrast of the snowy backdrop and warm fairy lights, it exudes a cool yet sweet vibe. The top is a halter-neck style with a white and deep blue color scheme, featuring snowflake decorations and a bow at the neckline. My favorite parts are the lilac-colored wide lantern sleevesâlayered ruffles combined with ribbons look so dreamy. The bright blue skirt features shimmering snowflake patterns, and the sheer fabric at the hem makes it look lightweight and elegant as it moves.
The setting for this shoot is incredibly atmospheric: pine branches covered in fake snow and warm yellow fairy lights, like stepping into a fairytale winter forest. There are pale pink gift boxes piled on the ground, echoing the festive birthday mood. The photographer captured every moment perfectly. I tried various posesâsitting on the gift box smiling, lying in the snow, and looking playfully at the camera while holding my skirt. Maintaining balance in the snow wearing white over-the-knee socks and dark blue heels was challenging, but every steady step and skirt adjustment made the photos more captivating.
As a birthday-inspired cosplay creation, I wanted to convey that carefree, vibrant feeling. The color palette of cold white, pink-purple, and deep blue looks crisp and bright in the high-key winter light. I've always believed that good cosplay isn't just about wearing the clothes; it's about using expressions, movements, and interaction with the environment to shape the character's personality. For example, the close-up where I close my eyes highlights the texture of my lashes and wig in natural light, and moments like raising my hands or resting my chin gently are all efforts to restore that lively, mischievous soul.
Despite the biting cold wind, seeing the lighting, snow, and gift boxes in the final shots makes it all worth it. Coinciding with March 7th, this is a small gift to myself and the character. I hope to continue using 2D anime girl photography to capture more sparkling moments like this. This post serves as my own personal shooting log.
