This shoot took quite some time to prepare, mainly due to the multi-tiered lace skirt and intricate headdress, requiring great care when dressing. To match the character's temperament, I chose a translucent, fair base makeup paired with blue contact lenses, with vintage glasses framing the face nicely. The setting was chosen at a very retro study with a piano, bookshelves, and wooden floors—the ambient light itself was naturally suited for this classical setting. We specifically chose the light around 4:30 PM, where the warm golden glow bathed the dress, creating an oil-painting-like aesthetic with minimal editing.
The pose in the first photo is one of my personal favorites: sitting on a wooden chair with crossed legs, holding a teacup in one hand and old letter paper in the other, which perfectly showcases the lines of my legs and shoes, while the small tea table and textured rug in the foreground and background add rich visual layers. The second photo is a close-up, holding that gem-adorned prop while looking slightly sideways into the lens with a restrained gaze, fitting her elegant yet mysterious nature. While preparing this Maid outfit, I researched the tailoring and lace-weaving techniques of that era; though I won't wear it often, every moment putting it on makes the time invested feel thoroughly meaningful. I am deeply pleased with the overall atmosphere of this Sakuya Izayoi cosplay photo set, and I'm grateful to the photographer for fantastic guidance on lighting and posing.
The location was a friend's studio filled with collected antique items—a vintage desk lamp, a carved round tea table with tea sets, and a birdcage in the corner. In such an environment, slipping into character felt effortless. Pre-production was indeed intricate: just smoothing out the lace ruffles on the dress took over half an hour. The magical prop in hand was handcrafted by myself with detailed gems and metallic hardware, carrying noticeable weight in hand. The textured carpet under high heels added the refined touch of old-world aristocracy. I particularly love the composition of the first shot, where the lower-left table and distant bookshelves form a wonderful perspective leading line, framing the figure squarely at the visual center. As the head maid, this resting respite setting is both casual and full of charming contrast.
For makeup, the focus was on defining eye contours and bold red lips, looking exceptionally textured under warm light. The glasses served as the crowning touch, elevating character fidelity instantly alongside the silver-white wig. This shoot was not only a tribute to Touhou Project, but also one of my favorite recent works. The quiet, serene atmosphere felt like stepping into a classical parallel universe. I explored varied angles—three-quarters, half-body, and full-body—to capture the most fitting expressions. The dress structure is complex and easily stepped on, so movements were kept subtle, conveying emotion through gazes and gestures. The letter in hand was genuine aged paper, with creased textures making the prop feel organic. I'm delighted by the lazy yet noble temperament conveyed. Attentive viewers might notice that placing my legs forward in the first photo highlighted the contours of the high heels and Stockings, accentuating her signature grace and composure. Subsequent shooting and post-processing took time, but the final outcome was deeply fulfilling. This Touhou Project cosplay journey allowed me to experience the allure of vintage attire, and I look forward to taking on more intricate, high-texture styling in the future.
