Teaming up with Annana for this Touhou Project shoot, we portrayed Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame respectively. To capture the everyday dynamic of the protagonist duo, we chose a realistic venue featuring tatami rooms and a bamboo courtyard. Putting on this red-and-white miko attire, the most immediate impression was the sheer volume of details: lace trims, crimson ribbons, an oversized head bow, and hairpins, with striking textural contrast throughout. For the lower half, I paired white over-the-knee White stockings with black platform leather shoes; walking created a subtle rustle between the hem and socks, while the red, black, and white palette looked clean and sharp. Annana wore a monochrome witch outfit featuring a massive black pointed hat lined with white ruffles and tipped with a golden star charm. She braided her long blonde hair and combined a crisp white shirt with a black vest and a plaid-trimmed apron. Standing together, the red and black complemented each other effortlessly.
The shooting process was wonderfully relaxed. We started indoors seated on tatami before a low wooden table dressed with a teapot, teacups, and a vase holding delicate pink flowers. As I poured tea from the pot while she rested her chin in her hand watching me, the familiar everyday chemistry of the protagonist pair came alive instantly. Later we moved outdoors to a swing set before the bamboo grove. The wooden swing with metal chains caught sunlight filtering through bamboo leaves, casting vibrant contrast across white lace and black fabric. Sitting beside me, Annana's oversized hat slightly obstructed sightlines, so I frequently reached over to adjust the brim or held it in hand. In one sequence, I lay down while she leaned over to tidy my hair, or I playfully placed the hat over her head—candid interactions that unfolded naturally during chats between takes, completely free of stiff, forced posing.
As someone who cosplays regularly, I found this attire gorgeous yet demanding of attention to detail. Reimu's detached sleeves and skirt incorporate delicate tulle and lace that easily snagged on bamboo twigs, requiring careful footwork. For makeup, to suit the character's temperament, I used red-toned eyeshadow and lip tints paired with long straight black hair and blunt bangs for a slightly aloof presence. Annana paired blonde hair with lighter eye makeup to look more bubbly. We verified the fastening order of accessories beforehand to ensure ribbons and hairpins stayed secure during movement. We captured diverse angles, ranging from intimate medium close-ups to panoramic swing interactions. The session felt like an unhurried tea gathering, and I adore the resulting ambiance—hoping the chemistry of this protagonist duo radiates warmly through the screen.
