The location for this photoshoot was set in an historic street framed by grey-brick stone gates and traditional carved wooden lattice windows. To complement the antique gravitas of the scenery, the garment was crafted from fabric featuring subtle purplish-brown damask weaves, showing off exquisite tactile texture under natural daylight. The coat was cut with a flattering tailored silhouette, while the wide bell cuffs and golden frog closures anchored the visual focus, complemented by the crimson mandarin collar as the crowning accent. The wig is a rich dark reddish-brown, which, paired with crimson contact lenses, made my eyes look exceptionally vibrant under outdoor lighting. To keep the wig from frizzing in the breeze, I treated the fibers with a smoothing conditioner before shooting and combed them repeatedly between takes to ensure the strands draped naturally.
For props, I prepared a crimson staff along with a skull and a birdcage. The staff sculpted with fiery red flames was the centerpiece; to hold it horizontal with a single hand during poses, the internal core was hollowed and lightened. When gripping it, my fingers consciously engaged and angled to project an effortless, relaxed demeanor. Sitting on the wooden bench cradling the skull actually required overcoming a bit of psychological hesitation, as the replica skull looked remarkably lifelike. To strike an aesthetically pleasing posture, I repeatedly refined the crossing angle of my legs and the cupping gesture of my hands, ensuring the shot balanced playful whimsy with an enigmatic narrative touch.
As for footwear and hosiery, white knee-high Stockings accented with red straps were paired with dark brown platform loafers. When capturing the walking-and-looking-back frames on stone stairs, pacing had to be measured carefully to prevent losing balance on the thick soles, all while keeping the flared hem of the coat from blowing into disarray. The sleeves are voluminous and easily swallow the hands, so whenever waving or adjusting my hat, I mindfully nudged the cuffs back. The shoot spanned several distinct micro-settings: standing inside doorway frames, resting along benches, and casual seated poses on stone steps—each pose seeking to break the visual weight of the formal attire and introduce an agile, daily vivacity.
In post-processing, the original color contrast of purple, red, and gold was preserved, with soft ambient light smoothing applied so the damask patterns remained crisp even in backlighting. To accentuate leg contours in the stone-step seated shot, we adjusted the camera angle to harness the subtle edge stretch of the wide-angle lens, making the legs appear even more slender in frame. Shooting this set demanded constant fine-tuning of props and wardrobe nuances to ensure the framing and lighting honored the thematic mood in every still. Spanning from afternoon through sunset, seamlessly transitioning from front-lighting to side-backlighting highlighted the reflective luster of the fabrics to perfection.
