The moment I saw the design concept for Malymoon's Candy Mahjong China Girl, I knew I had to bring a Rem version of it to life. The final look exceeded all expectations—the palette of aqua blue and crisp white authentically captured the ethereal, adorable charm of the original character.
The outfit is packed with intricate craftsmanship. The top is tailored with a slim, form-fitting cut, with silver hardware and traditional frog buttons neatly aligned across the chest; the delicate lace along the trims feels premium and hugs the silhouette naturally. The sleeves are crafted from semi-translucent mesh, embellished with dimensional floral appliqués and cascading tassels that create beautiful dynamic motion whenever I raise my arms.
The tiered construction of the skirt is the centerpiece of this design. It features a multi-layered cake-skirt silhouette, where the outer layer is adorned with aqua rippling ruffles and the inner layer with delicate white flounces. To support the voluminous skirt, I wore two petticoats underneath, achieving just the right amount of fullness without appearing bulky while ensuring the silhouette's curve stayed pristine.
The leg styling was curated with equal thought. The thigh straps and lower-leg bloomers are crafted from sheer organza, accented with ribbons and silver cross pendants. To complement the overarching color harmony, I selected White stockings; they not only smooth and sculpt the leg contours, but also establish an appealing visual contrast against the sheer overlays. On my feet, I wore matching light-blue Mary Janes, whose toe-cap bows tied in seamlessly with the skirt.
For the wig, to recreate the character's twintails, I chose an ice-blue shade and adorned the hair buns with color-coordinated accessories. The hair was cut in textured layers to give both sides a fuller, softer volume. The makeup focused squarely on the eyes, pairing blue-gray colored contacts with a gentle wash of light blue blended along the outer eye corners, ensuring the gaze felt bright and expressive before the lens.
Being in character during the shoot was surprisingly effortless. Despite the voluminous skirt, the textiles were remarkably lightweight, allowing unrestricted movement. To maintain clean visual lines, I made sure to keep my back upright to best highlight the sharp tailoring of the bodice. This look produces fantastic results whether in an indoor studio or walking through an anime convention hall. The tiered skirt and ornate leg accents allow even a simple standing pose or a gentle step forward to yield striking compositions.
I am personally thrilled with the finished quality of this photoshoot. The fabric textures and micro-details aligned completely with my expectations, and I look forward to taking this look to even more diverse locations in the future.
