Regarding the photoshoot for this original headcanon Rem cosplay Qipao outfit, the initial concept was to combine Chinese-girl elements with the character's signature traits. Why choose White stockings? Because White stockings visually elongate leg proportions, and paired with the cut of the skirt hem, the overall silhouette flows more smoothly. On the day of the shoot, a white circular rug was set up as the base scene, accompanied by a white chair as a prop to highlight the blue-and-white color palette of the garment.
Mirror selfies were actually harder to control than expected. To find the right angles, I experimented with different sitting postures. The pose in Photo 3 involved extending both legs forward with arches pointed straight, which most intuitively showcased thigh length through the perspective in the mirror—this was one of the compositions I was most satisfied with. Photo 1 tested a reaching-hand pose that nicely filled the negative space on the right, while Photo 2 featured sitting cross-legged to capture a relaxed everyday vibe. Because the dress is short, sitting down required keeping the core engaged, and slightly turning the body made the curves of the Qipao look more natural.
In terms of room decor, there was originally a tall display cabinet filled with various figurines and plushies, which—along with a frog headpiece on the air conditioner cover—imbued the entire background with a 2D atmosphere. A wall clock added an everyday feel, so I positioned the tripod to one side, using the mirror's reflection to block out clutter while keeping the clean, tidy skirt hem and White stockings in focus. There was also a gray-and-white cat in the room that occasionally wandered past the edge of the frame; capturing a wide shot of it added an unexpected touch of authenticity.
The outfit details are relatively intricate: the waist features a white lace hem with tie ribbons, and the top is styled in fresh light-blue floral prints with crisp fabric that didn't crease upon sitting, offering plenty of freedom to pose. This session was primarily to test the makeup and overall styling fidelity. For the wig, the blue double buns were adorned with two white lace hair accessories, with numerous bobby pins sewn into the inner wig cap for secure attachment. For hand gestures, keeping them naturally relaxed helped make limbs appear slender.
To summarize this photoshoot, lighting utilized indoor natural light combined with ceiling lights; standard flat lighting accurately reproduced the garment's original blue-and-white colors without requiring heavy color grading in post-production, only needing light cleanup of watermarks and background clutter. Overall, this was a very smooth fitting and photo session. If worn to an anime convention or cosplay gathering, the skirt length should make walking quite convenient.
