This shoot features a pure white and ice blue angel styling. The design inspiration itself actually stems from Rem's original outfit elements, but to present a dreamier light effect, the iconic maid apron was replaced with an off-the-shoulder tulle dress adorned with plenty of ruffles and bows, paired with a custom-made transparent halo and thin, light wings. On the shooting day, the studio lighting was primarily cool-toned. Blue hydrangeas and cotton cloud props built a "cloudscape" setting. Looking at the sample photos after production, I am very satisfied with the overall transparency.
In terms of cool-toned makeup and styling, to match the airy feel of this outfit, the base makeup was intentionally given a matte finish, keeping only localized highlights to brighten the collarbones and cheekbones. Gray-blue was used as the base for eyeshadow, with pearlescent shimmer to brighten the inner corners of the eyes. This was paired with a soft pink blush and lip glaze, so it wouldn't look overly pale under the cool lighting, but instead carry a touch of healthy color. The white cross hair accessory on the bangs was modified by hand; it was originally plastic, but I repainted it and added a bit of fine shimmer so that the reflection in front of the lens would be softer. The wig is a light blue short bob with straight bangs, slightly volumized at the crown so it wouldn't be flattened by the headband.
Regarding the outfit details, the most time-consuming part was the large bow on the chest; because the fabric was relatively soft, I lined it with shaping mesh to achieve a crisp curvature. The sleeves and the ruffles around the waist received the same treatment, ensuring they wouldn't collapse even during movement. The wings were crafted from lightweight feathers glued together. Although small, they perfectly reveal the contour of the back when paired with a slightly tilted shoulder line. During the shoot, I intentionally used several arm-lifting and side-facing poses, allowing the lines of my shoulders and collarbones to peek through the gaps in the ruffles. At the same time, the skirt length was just above the knee, keeping the overall look from feeling too heavy.
For the post-processing of this set, there was no excessive skin smoothing. I mainly adjusted the color temperature to make the blue of the background purer and kept the skin tone naturally fair to avoid clipped highlights. The edges of the cotton props in the original photos were blurred out to keep the visual focus around the face and the bow on the chest. During the shoot, I actually tried a lying down posture, but felt it lacked the sense of extension that kneeling and standing possessed. Ultimately, I chose this composition where I raise my hand to touch my hair with my gaze slightly lowered, which maintains the purity of an angel while bringing out a slightly playful vibe.
I've always felt that Rem's core essence is gentle yet steadfast. So although this styling breaks away from her daily maid outfit, it retains the spiritual core of her hair color and hair accessories. Interpreting her in a more "ethereal" way proves to be an interesting attempt. From preparing props and debugging lights to the final product, the whole process took three days, but seeing the layers of light and shadow falling on the skirt in the final photos made it feel entirely worth it. I hope everyone can feel this healing atmosphere thoughtfully created through this anime-style photography.
