[Patchouli cosplay] Reclusive witch Mukyu in Touhou Project

This Patchouli cosplay shoot was chosen in a vintage library scene, wanting to fully capture the atmospheric vibe of a reclusive witch. The wig was chosen in a pink-purple blunt-bangs style with a slight gradient. To fit that soft yet intellectual temperament in Touhou secondary settings, the length of the bangs was specially trimmed so that it could just modify the face shape without blocking the eyes. The clothing is a typical Lolita style, spliced with off-white and light champagne, with many layers of lace and ruffles at the collar and cuffs. After putting it on, I realized that this outfit is not light at all, especially those huge puff sleeves and the multi-layered pleats on the skirt hem, which require quite a bit of time to tidy up to support that fluffy yet regular styling.
Since it's a witch in a library, the pairing of props and scenes is particularly important. That heavy and vintage book has golden relief and gemstone decorations on the cover, full of texture in hand, but it also requires wrist and finger strength to support it. During the shoot, attention had to be paid to finger posture to avoid looking too stiff. To enrich the frame, I also prepared thin-framed glasses with pearl hanging chains. Wearing them, paired with the butterfly sticker on the cheek, not only added scholarly charm but also made the gaze more focused. The chessboard on the floor, the magnifying glass, and the walls of books in the background are all silently contributing to the storytelling of the frame.
What took the most thought during the shooting process was body language and sitting posture. Wearing white stockings and pink plush slippers, sitting on a dark carved wooden chair, the angle of crossing legs needed careful adjustment. If the skirt wasn't placed well, the waist would look bloated; if the shoes were hidden in the skirt hem, it would look like feet were missing. To express Mukyu's laziness, I tried holding the hat brim with one hand, looking down at a book, or spacing out while holding a star-shaped magic wand. While reading, the gaze shouldn't be too sharp, but rather have the feeling of emptying the brain after reading grimoires for a long time. The posture of holding the magic wand also had to be natural, as if on a long afternoon, ready at any moment to play a prank on anyone who accidentally broke in.
Lighting was the hardest part to control in this shoot. The warm-yellow side rim light hitting the golden book spines and off-white dress indeed gave a heavy oil-painting-like texture, but it also easily made the facial shadows too heavy. To this end, we adjusted the angle of the reflector, retaining the three-dimensionality of the facial features while making the character's skin tone look more translucent. While posing, constant attention had to be paid to the wig styling and the position of the pearl chain on the chest, because once brushed by the wide sleeves, the overall balance would be disrupted.
This set of pictures overall aims to present a quiet, self-consistent atmosphere. There are no overly exaggerated expressions, nor any deliberate creation of dramatic conflict; it's simply wanting to show the witch's relaxed state in her own space. In this space full of scholarly charm and magic elements, successfully completing this Patchouli shoot felt extremely healing. I hope everyone likes this quiet daily life belonging to Patchouli.
