This outdoor shoot was chosen on an old street at night, mainly to try out the night Atmospheric photography of pure white wings paired with a sailor uniform. Since the background was dominated by dark-toned stone walls and buildings, the core of the entire shoot lay in how to naturally cast light onto the subject and the huge feather wings while retaining the quietness unique to the night. Regarding props, this pair of feather wings was much larger than expected. Wearing wings outside a sailor uniform really tests the garment's load-bearing capacity and the fixing method of the shoulder straps. To prevent the clothes from deforming, we made many adjustments with hidden snaps and straps inside. Coupled with the night wind outdoors, the feathers easily flew around or tangled together. As the coser on camera, I had to keep an eye on the direction of the feathers at all times, trying to keep them in a naturally drooping or wind-fluttering state to avoid looking messy. The clothing is a classic white-base blue-striped sailor uniform; to match the Angel cosplay theme, I paired it with white mid-tube socks and black loafers. The outdoor night is actually quite cold, but as long as the camera rolls, I had to maintain my state. We took several scenes at the street corner and by the stone wall. For the sitting pose by the stone wall, because the building surface was very rough, sitting on it wearing a white skirt required special care to avoid getting the clothes dirty or torn. The beads and wooden door on the wall served as the background, adding some retro and mysterious colors to the frame. Night portrait photography relies most heavily on lighting. The photographer used a main light plus a softbox to create a side-backlight, which nicely outlined the edge contours of the face and wings. There was also an auxiliary fill light used to illuminate the face and prevent the skin tone from looking gray as the environment darkened. To make the lighting effect closer to a real night environment, we repeatedly adjusted the flash output ratio, trying to make the light look like it was coming from a specific light source rather than rigid flat light. In terms of props, we prepared a stainless steel disc with a mirror reflection effect and a butterfly specimen with black base and white spots. When shooting hand close-ups, utilizing the mirror to reflect the details of the Sailor uniform girl, coupled with the embellishment of the butterfly specimen, the sense of layering in the image instantly emerged. We also brought a dark blue crescent-shaped prop and a dark scimitar prop, enriching the movements through different interactions. Although this is not a cosplay of a specific anime character, the process of constructing a specific visual image through clothing, props, and scenes similarly requires rigorous styling design and camera expressiveness. Shooting with these props on the midnight street, occasionally passersby would curiously take a second look, which can also be considered a special experience. The entire shooting process, from lighting setup to styling adjustments, required great patience at every step. When wrapping up and taking off the wings, I found my shoulders were a bit sore, but being able to leave behind these frames full of light-and-shadow charm on this night was definitely worth it.
