Shooting this Chiaki Nanami cosplay photoshoot was truly a series of ups and downs. We originally planned a comfortable and realistic style for this footbridge night portrait, but we didn't expect the wind at night to be so absurdly strong that standing on the bridge felt like being blown away. The most devastating part was the equipment; because the wind was too strong, the fill lights we set up were blown over twice, completely wrecking a light and a power bank, and the softbox suffered as well.

Although the damaged equipment broke my heart a bit, it was also this unpredictable accident that gave the shooting process an exceptionally authentic sense of being on set. To match the temperament of this Ultimate Gamer from Super Danganronpa 2, this styling was actually prepared for a long time. Especially the light pink short hair, which is the soul of the entire makeup and hair styling. To express the fluffiness and layering unique to anime characters, before spraying the setting spray on the wig, I intentionally used a crimping iron for the base and then gently combed it with a wide-tooth comb. The strong wind tonight was a big test for the wig's wind resistance. Fortunately, during the final shoot, the effect of the wind messing up the hair strands actually added a touch of ethereality and casualness, perfectly fitting the loneliness and focus of a late-night gaming scene.

In terms of makeup, since I needed to maintain my look under both bright studio lights and low-light night conditions, I chose a thin waterproof liquid eyeliner to outline my eyes, paired with blended pink-orange eyeshadow. This color scheme neutralizes the chilly feel brought by the cool-toned wig, making my gaze softer and more well-behaved. For the overall outfit, the dark academy-style uniform paired with a light-colored pleated skirt and that small pink backpack restored the character's everyday vibe while retaining a touch of cuteness.

During the shoot, the angles I was most satisfied with were the ones where I squatted down later, leaning halfway against the railing or leaning outward. The night wind was indeed strong, and the city's traffic lights were blurred into colorful bokeh circles by the wide-aperture lens. At that moment, I felt like I had truly integrated into the character's state of mind standing in the city nightscape. Although the lights were broken, the photographer perfectly captured the city lights reflected on the glass panels and those dreamy bokeh spots from a specific angle, beautifully elevating the character's atmosphere for this piece of Cosplay photography.

However, when it's windy, I can still offer some small tips to fellow fans shooting night portraits: if conditions allow, try to shorten the focal length or increase the shutter speed, which effectively prevents absolute motion blur caused by excessive wind. Adjusting mental expectations is also a mandatory course. Faced with fierce gusts, all we could do with our originally planned perfect compositions was to quickly adjust poses, cooperate with props, and catch the natural wind force. Candid captures and interactions are what best convey a character's vividness. Although a portion of the equipment was ruined, the atmosphere of this photo set definitely reached expectations, making it a rare and precious record.

This set of Chiaki Nanami cosplay night portraits is one of my favorite recent works. Though the process was rough, being able to restore the character in this way makes it feel entirely worth it.
