Shooting Suisui from Wuthering Waves this time involved a lot of thought from fitting to set decoration. The costume details are very durable to gaze upon: the outer layer is lightweight white gauze, layering over a dress with a white base and gold patterns. The skirt hem easily drifts when walking, requiring constant adjustments to its flow during the shoot. The collar is made of a stiff black material embroidered with gold patterns, creating a stark contrast against the white dress, and paired with purple gloves, a pearl bracelet, and red cord knots. The golden birds and red tassels on the hair accessories are very lively, and together with the yellow wig and the black mark on the forehead, the entire look is highly recognizable.
In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on the eyeshadow and lip color, with relatively heavy red smudging paired with golden-yellow colored contacts to cultivate a lazy and slightly melancholic feeling. The background setup was also intricate: a giant full moon hung in front of a black backdrop, intertwined with golden ginkgo branches and white cherry blossoms, with golden satin and translucent white gauze draped across the daybed, and blue-and-white porcelain pots with pink lotus flowers placed in the corner. To keep these elements from looking cluttered in front of the lens, the photographer repeatedly adjusted the key light and side lights before the gold thread embroidery and sheer fabric translucency were flawlessly presented.
Because it was a daybed scene, most of my poses were leaning and semi-reclining. To capture that relaxed yet visually tense feeling, the core always had to stay engaged. For example, in the action of raising a leg while holding the fan in photo one, I had to maintain body balance while paying attention to the skirt's drape position; the shadow on the leg line under the lighting was also critical, and it took trying several angles to capture a satisfying curve. When sitting sideways holding the folding fan in photo five, the high slit of the skirt perfectly revealed the leg line, paired with black high heels with red soles, which elongated visual proportions considerably. Appearing barefoot looked softer; stepping on the wooden floor was actually a bit chilly, but the presented effect was very natural.
The prop folding fan had a blue reflective side and a dark side, expressing different moods when matched with different poses. The whole set preserved warm golden light and shadow without over-the-top post-processing, hoping to convey the garment's texture and ambient atmosphere authentically to everyone. My biggest takeaway after shooting was that this style combining Chinese aesthetics and fantasy poses extremely high demands on costume tailoring, movement nuances, and lighting setups, but seeing the final photos made all the fatigue worthwhile.
