Shooting Sodom's Beast/Draco, also known to everyone as Beast Nero, took a long time to prepare, from props to the scene setup. That iconic mechanical crown was meticulously polished out of lightweight sheets and metallic paint, requiring center-of-gravity adjustments when worn on the head to keep it from tilting. We went through several choices for the fabric of the red gown, finally settling on this satin with strong drape and sheen, which, paired with the dark gold base and red drapery, aims to recreate that high-saturation sense of luxury.
During the shoot, smoke was intentionally added to the background, letting the light pierce through the haze to form the Tyndall effect, with the studio spotlights shining down from the upper side to simulate a holy yet heavy sense of oppression. The lion head carvings on the throne and the scattered silver candlesticks were all hand-modified props; even that patterned Holy Grail was painted by myself. We tried several versions of the pose on the throne; the one in the photo, resting my chin on one hand and placing my bare feet on the armrest, best fits Draco's lazy and all-disdainful divinity.
In fact, the neckline and arm straps of this outfit really test body lines. To support the character's aura, I controlled my diet and posture for a while beforehand. The temperature at the venue was very high on the shooting day. Wearing a heavy wig and layers of fabric, I sweat quite a lot, but seeing the dark classical atmosphere under the intense red-and-gold color scheme in the final photos made it all feel worthwhile. Collaborating with the photographer, we shot many low-angle upward views, reinforcing the character's supreme majesty in this FGO Cosplay session.
Beast-class characters in Fate/Grand Order always carry a contradictory sense of destruction and salvation. Draco's lines and backstory gave me plenty of inspiration for expression management—not too fierce, but with the detachment of a ruler. The overall makeup this time also matched the red-and-gold theme, with red geometric lines at the corners of the eyes adding a mechanical feel to this dark glamorous photography piece. I hope to fully convey this unique character temperament.
