Putting on this Minamoto no Yorimitsu New Year's outfit, my first impression was that its level of gorgeousness truly exceeded the limits of daily wear. Although the drape and luster of the velvet fabric feel extremely premium, the difficulty of moving in this outfit is far higher than imagined. Especially with the floor-sweeping length of the front hem and the waist-hugging tailoring, I had to lift the skirt hem very carefully with almost every step to avoid stepping on the edges. It definitely required the photographer's constant reminders and assistance on the side to complete several sets of fixed poses.
The material of this purple dress features velvet with shimmering particles. Under the venue's blue-purple atmospheric lights, it presents a gradient luster from deep purple to bright purple, providing a fantastic sense of visual layering. The large, eye-catching red woven frog buttons on the chest and collar, along with the dangling golden butterfly ornaments, look exceptionally striking against the primary purple tone, giving the entire garment a focal point. Aside from the main long dress, the black lace gloves and high-slit design, paired with sheer black stockings and pointed-toe purple high heels, not only sustain the character's cold, glamorous aura but also beautifully integrate the mature charm unique to a New Year's outfit.
The accessories in this gear can practically be described as overwhelmingly numerous. When actually trying it on in the hotel room, facing those complex buckles, crisscross straps on the chest, dolls hanging on the thighs, and the matching hat, I was honestly a bit at a loss. Fortunately, the photographer that day was incredibly patient, helping me research how to firmly fix these scattered decorations in their proper positions. Especially that flower-shaped half-mask headpiece, combined with the original short hair styling, instantly brings a sense of mystery like a veil to the character's aura, forming a great contrast with a purely dignified look.
The stagehands were also very dedicated with the set design. The background features a large vintage floral screen, and the corner is furnished with an oil-paper umbrella, a floor lamp shaped like a metal birdcage, and an exquisitely carved European-style chair. When illuminated by the blue-purple lighting, these prop elements perfectly highlight the character's mysterious and elegant tone. Especially in those seated and kneeling poses, since the skirt hem could naturally spread out, paired with the black folding fan in hand, the color contrast of red, purple, gold, and black exhibits an immense amount of visual tension.
Although the design of this long dress imposes restrictions on movement—such as constantly worrying about stepping on the skirt hem when crouching or turning around—the final outcome of the photo set was absolutely worth it. These intricate accessories and every tiny golden ornament on the clothing require a lot of time to organize and adjust angles before shooting. Though this experience was a bit troublesome, being able to complete this complex styling with the photographer's assistance made the overall experience pretty great. Everyone cooperated with great chemistry to produce a fine piece of anime cosplay photography.
