[Tamamo no Mae cosplay] Fate/Grand Order Anime Convention Photoshoot Reflections

I sorted out the Convention photos from the New Furong Anime Expo on August 3rd, shot by photographer Daozhang. In a crowded and noisy exhibition hall, these photos were captured using a wide aperture to blur the background; I'm very pleased with the resulting bokeh circles, which fit the character's mysterious aura wonderfully.

This time I cosplayed Tamamo no Mae from Fate/Grand Order, which required extensive preparation beforehand. The long pink hair is a wig; to frame my face shape better, I trimmed the bangs and layered the hair along the sides of my cheeks. The animal ears on top of the head are very large, featuring white insides and brownish gradient exteriors. A small gold-trimmed black hat is pinned to the left ear. The tail behind me is equally massive with a brown-and-white pattern; to keep it from dragging on the ground while walking, wire was inserted for shaping, though it demanded extra caution when putting it on, taking it off, or turning around.

In terms of costume, this custom-made black dress features gold lacing across the chest and ruffled shoulder accents, making the waistline look very slender. The sleeves are voluminous with a blue-purple gradient, delivering strong visual impact. For legwear, I paired over-the-knee Black stockings with a pair of glossy, chunky-heeled ankle boots. These metal-buckle boots offered great support when striking poses.

Shooting on-site at a convention presents two main challenges. The first is finding clean backdrops, requiring us to utilize cylindrical pedestals and black folding chairs to build visual layering. For instance, in shots where I step onto the white platform with one leg, stretching the leg lines highlights the advantages of long legs in Black stockings, which, paired with the heeled boots, creates much better visual proportions. Seated or leaning poses better accentuate the contours of the shoulders and back. The second challenge is lighting—dodging overhead ceiling lights to keep facial illumination soft. Here, I'm grateful for the photographer's patient guidance; we tried numerous positions and angles to capture close-ups of the talisman prop and expressive eye contact.

For makeup, the focus was on the eyes, wearing red colored contacts to deepen the character's mystery, paired with a vibrant red lip color. Throughout the entire shoot, although walking around was tiring due to the hefty weight of the tail and outfit, seeing the final results brings a true sense of achievement. It was a thoroughly enjoyable Cosplay convention photos experience.
