This outdoor location shoot for Susu from Fox Spirit Matchmaker was scheduled right on the eve of National Day, choosing a lush, densely wooded forest. For outdoor shoots, the interplay between natural light and the environment is everything. While prepping the outfit before heading out, I paid close attention to the pink crossover-collar robe, flowing wide white sleeves, and the sash patterned with blue-green foliage motifs. To stay true to her canon design, the blonde wig, the cowlick ahoge on top, and the fluffy animal ears on both sides were styled and set well in advance. The skewer of candied hawthorns in hand was the core prop of this shoot—whether held naturally or framed as foreground, it instantly added a vibrant, lively charm.
The shoot day was blessed with radiant sunlight, creating rich tiers of light and shadow filtering through the canopy. Such natural light is wonderful for rendering character textures, especially against backlighting, which softly rimmed my silhouette and the fuzzy edges of the beast ears. On-location shooting demands plenty of movement; to bring out Susu's sprightly, mischievous aura, I explored varied body language. Sitting atop a rugged tree trunk required balancing my center of gravity and arranging the skirt drape to keep the fabric from snagging on twigs. Dynamic jumping shots were technically demanding, requiring close coordination with the photographer to maintain effortless facial composure and prop stability mid-leap.
Pose design centered on a playful, buoyant energy. Raising the candied hawthorns with one hand while reaching out with the other, or standing with hands on hips, highlighted her innocent, carefree spirit. Gaze direction was equally vital: pairing green contact lenses with an upturned head brought lively radiance to her expressions. The loose white trousers and white shoes folded into organic ripples in motion, giving candid snapshots an effortless, authentic kinetic energy.
Photographer Han Fufu was exceptionally skilled with shutter timing and lighting control. Outdoor environments shift rapidly with passing clouds and dappled sun, demanding agile aperture and shutter adjustments; the resulting transitions between light and shadow felt remarkably smooth. The shooting tempo was brisk as we moved between woodland clearings and stone paths, using diverse camera angles to craft a striking color contrast between the pink attire and lush green backdrop.

Though Susu looks petite and delicate, she possesses an unwavering inner resolve, so my expressions strove for an open, confident glow.
