[Xiangling Cosplay] Genshin Impact Lantern Rite Night View: Liyue's Vibrant Festive Atmosphere Amid Lantern Shadows

Every year during Lantern Rite, Liyue Harbor becomes exceptionally bustling. Under the night sky, I headed out for a night portrait session in this modified winter outfit. The location chosen was an ancient town district with stone steps and a waterfront, where the high-hung lanterns captured the vibrant, cozy street atmosphere of Liyue remarkably well. Jumping straight into sharing the shoot details without fluff!

The outfit features many design details. For warmth and styling, the exterior uses a red padded jacket with plush patchwork, where the white fur trim along the edges carries a soft texture without reflecting harsh light. The inner layer is a grayish-purple Chinese-style mandarin collar top with a keyhole chest design integrated with frog button elements, toning down and transitioning the dominant red tone to keep colors grounded. The yellow knit beanie paired with short blue hair shifts the visual focal point to the head, with an orange hairpin added as a nice accent. A white plush crossbody bag adds cuteness to the overall look; its pattern and 3D texture liven up the scene whether held or worn at the hip. To match the street backdrop layering, I chose light-colored leggings paired with white leg warmers accented by black trim, along with black platform shoes—visually lengthening leg proportions and making movement on stone steps easy for poses.

During the shoot, emphasis was placed on fluid poses and their harmony with the composition. For instance, a single-leg balancing pose on the stone pavement extended the body gracefully by opening both arms; sitting on a stone bench by the water looking up and waving brought out a quieter atmosphere, backed by blurred lantern bokeh with building lights reflected on the water surface. The photographer used a strong flash fill light, keeping front-facing skin tones and costume textures clear at night, while the background relied on warm lantern ambient light for mood.

This technique of pairing a large aperture with flash is particularly suited for Chinese-style cosplay night portraits amidst ancient architecture, creating a distinct warm-versus-cool contrast between the subject and architectural elements. Blue-gray stonework, vibrant red rows of lanterns, and two huge glowing fish lanterns overhead served as phenomenal background props. The photo climbing the stone steps was shot from a slightly high angle to clearly show the surrounding upturned eaves, pillars, and red paper lanterns, giving the composition greater depth.

Regarding outfit coordination, since large movements needed to be considered during the shoot, a slightly looser cut was chosen for the jacket so movement wouldn't be restricted. The leg warmer design also struck a fine balance between warmth and flattering leg lines. It was a bit chilly that night, but thankfully the outfit was thick enough so sitting on the stone bench for an extended time didn't feel cold.

The camera language for this session mainly utilized full-body and medium shots, interspersed with close-ups to enrich the browsing rhythm of the page. The medium close-up shot clearly shows the flow of wig strands and catchlights in the eyes, serving as an emotionally restrained photo in this set that contrasts nicely with the dynamic, open poses later on. All in all, shooting this set was both a presentation of character styling and a desire to record the unique, heartwarming feeling of Lantern Rite night portraits.
